The wonderful thing about living in London is that everything you could possibly need is right on your doorstep, and everything you didn’t think you needed, too! That being said, we all love a holiday and sometimes, an escape from the city is just the getaway that you need to recharge.

Now that we are in January, one of the darkest months of the year, it is the perfect time to look ahead and think about how we can get a spring back in our step now that the festivities have died down and the new year has kicked off. Without wanting to take the children out of school, the ideal time is half term or end of term holidays, so we can all come together and get a spring back in our steps!
One of my favourite things about the English countryside is that it’s just a stone’s throw away from any major town or city which makes it much more accessible for working families like ours. We love to explore and find new, fun things to do as a family, so I think planning our next getaway will be exciting!
One part of the world that is great for families to escape the city is the beautiful Cotswolds. There are market towns aplenty such as Evesham and Stratford upon Avon that offer a wealth of history and quirky charm, opportunities for wholesome family walks and fishing – and of course more exhilarating activities for the whole family such as water sports and paintballing.
Family Getaway
When looking for a family getaway, it’s so important to have a range of options. Beach holidays and hotel life are more often associated with holidays abroad, whereas a staycation here in the UK is more associated with camping and caravan parks – variety is the spice of life, after all! Looking at Evesham camping and caravan facilities led me to a wonderful discovery – it is not what it used to be at all!
The humble caravan park really has something for everyone. There is always room, of course, for the traditional tourer caravans, but there are also holiday homes available for those who want something that offers a little more space and home comforts – which is handy with kids.
Keeping Everyone Happy
Everyone looks for different things in a family getaway, but an equal balance of family time, alone time and shared interests is the perfect combination for me. Perhaps somewhere to adventure and explore as a family, or a trip to a zoo or wildlife park to really make some memories that everyone can enjoy. Throw in some quality alone time while Dad handles the kids solo for a few hours – whether this is a relaxing spa morning or reading a book in a quiet coffee shop; or vice versa while he goes fishing or plays a round of golf. Of course, the kids are always looking for entertainment too, and keeping active is a great way to do this.
A trip can be fun and exciting, and educational if you want it to be, with so much history that it’s a learning experience for the whole family. No matter what you are looking for on your next trip away, don’t forget that England has every bit as much to offer as going abroad – if not more!
This year, save the hassle of booking flights and dealing with transfers and instead spend your valuable free time relaxing! Imagine playing a board game or watching a family favourite film with your loved ones on your escape from the city – pure bliss right!
Are you planning your next getaway? If so, good luck with it and, in the meantime, I hope you had a wonderful holiday break and that 2019 is as good as what 2018 was!

I live in the midlands where we are very fortunate to be just an hour or two away from some of the UK’s best countryside. I love to visit Wales, especially the west coast.

With all the devastation from the bushfires, we’re all going to those hit communities with an empty esky and full wallets and buying up from local businesses. Sometimes the quick, easy getaways are good for the soul! #KCACOLS

I’ll be based in London for two months late this spring and have been trying to narrow down the list of day trips I want to take from London. I definitely have more day and overnight trips I want to take than days to take them! And the Cotswolds is quite high on my list!!

We love a getaway to somewhere in the UK! The boys really love finding out about different places and it definitely improves their geography knowledge. We’re hoping to head to the South West this year. #KCACOLS

I spent my childhood living in the countryside and it never leaves you. I now live near a town centre but often spend weekends in the country or even on nature trails. Such beauty in the world if you can find it.

Love getting out in the country with the kids. They are big fans of caravans too so that is always a good option for us. #KCACOLS
