Turning A Bathroom Into A Focal Point

amomentwithfranca · 31 October 2022 · 32 Comments

Bathrooms are primarily used for utility and not for living but that shouldn’t be a reason to design the room solely for practicality and not for comfort. This is especially true when you consider that the shower and especially the bathtub should be a place of relaxation and enjoyment. However, if the room around it evokes more pragmatism than well-being, this can sometimes turn out to be quite difficult.

Turning A Bathroom Into A Focal Point

Thus, we collected five tips for a successful renovation and upgrade of your bathroom.

1. The big two: Shower and Tub

Arguably the two most dominant items in a bathroom and therefore also the two with the greatest significance. A walk-in shower, complete with elegant, glass shower enclosures, has been particularly popular in recent years. This combined with a rain shower head ensures wonderfully revitalizing showers. If you have enough space for a free-standing bathtub, you can create a real eye-catcher with an unusual and bold bathtub design.

2. Let the sink speak for itself

Second to the above is the sink, which should come in a simple and minimalistic style. Ideally, in harmony with whichever geometric form you choose for the shower and its fittings – round and soft, or rectangular and sharp? Either way, an overly detailed sink can quickly look cluttered and out of place unless it’s the focal point of your space. What can also give the room more air and meaning are floating sinks with hidden connections, to give it a clean sense of purpose.

3. Give every item its designated space

The overwhelming and wonderful sense of cleanliness and order is created by having little to no extraneous items lying around openly that do not qualify as decoration. This is not always easy, especially in the bathroom – all the more important are clever storage spaces, behind the doors and drawers of which all hygiene utensils can find their place when not in use. Speaking of decorations, especially natural materials like wood, cotton or linen give a soft and clean feel. Plants and single-coloured towels complete the picture.

4. Arrange your lighting

Natural sunlight is always best when it comes to lighting but unfortunately, not all bathrooms are equipped with it. Smaller rooms in particular often come without windows and have to be completely artificially lit. A large mirror can already help here, making the room appear larger and reflecting the light from its source. As a rule, avoid shadows on faces as much as possible when looking in the mirror; backlighting is the best solution here. Dimmable light from several spotlights can also create a cosy atmosphere when bathing and at the same time provide clinically bright light for your morning routine.

5. Pick the proper tiles

Although coloured or patterned tiles look exciting, they can quickly lose their appeal or make the room look too busy. If you’re looking for evergreens instead, it’s best to stick to muted and neutral colours like white, eggshell or grey – or even laminate for the flooring! Instead of overwhelming colours, bold geometric shapes such as polygons or herringbone patterns can be chosen, which give the room a more subtle glow.
