Bookawoo Kid’s Subscription Service Review

amomentwithfranca · 11 May 2016 · 129 Comments

I really like subscription services and have reviewed a few already on my blog. I think they are definitely the way forward. I love the surprise factor of this type of service as every month you are looking forward to receiving your box, opening it and finding out what is inside. For me, this is just fantastic. I was recently approached by a new Irish company called Bookawoo who asked me to review the first box for free. Their boxes contain books for kids. Bella was of course happier than me when I told her, LOL! We are always grateful to receive new books to add to our special bookshelf for the girls at home.

BOOKAWOO FI

What is Bookawoo? Well, as I mentioned above, they are new monthly subscription service that sends your child a magical box with a selection of books to help broaden and develop their imagination.  Each month has a new theme and is designed to encourage a love of reading.

Each box is personalised with your child’s name and the contents of fun and educational books is aimed specifically at their age group. They are currently creating boxes for children aged 0-11 because this is a very important time in their educational development.

Bella and I were really excited about this box. We were very curious to find out what was inside.

The packaging was big and different. It had some bright colours which definitely caught my attention. It had Bella’s name written on the outside of the box which I thought was a beautiful touch!

When she opened the box, we saw that it was also personalised with Bella’s name on the inside alongside a quote from Willy Wonka (Roald Dahl). The box was really well packed and the books were protected with bubble wrap. Once that is removed, each book is wrapped in white tissue paper and sealed with a ‘Bookawoo’ sticker logo. The box also includes an envelope of personalised stickers (Bella loved this a lot), a personalised bookmark and a letter with instructions for parents.

These are the books that were inside the box:

Could an Octopus climb a Skyscraper? … and other Questions

This is a lovely nonfiction picture book which shows facts about the octopus by imagining how she would cope in the human world. The illustrations are really adorable. The book ends with a “Fact File” gathering the information learned, a map showing the range of habitat and a real photograph. Bella loved this book. It really caught her attention.

Zoe’s Rescue Zoo: The Playful Panda

This book is part of a series of books. It is about when Great-Uncle Horace brings back lost and homeless animals from his travels around the globe. Zoe and her mum (the zoo vet) try to settle them into their new home. She is very good at this, because she can understand what they say and she can talk to them too, although this a secret. In this book we found out that panda twins arrive at the zoo. Bella enjoyed this book. She tried to read it on her own with a little help from me too. It was a great bedtime story. We are now wondering what happens in the other books in the series.

Draw It! A Doodle a Day book

This book is amazing. Bella absolutely love it. This is the one that she has been asking to read and draw in all the time and I love that because we have a lot of artists on both sides of the family so it was interesting to see if she also has that talent. This book is an activity book which encourages children to get their pens and pencils out and explore their creativity every day of the year.  It comes with 365 activities! How great is that?

100 Animals to Spot at the Zoo

Flash Cards collage 3

This set of cards is part of the “Spotter’s Guide” series from Usborn. Each of the cards in the pack shows a different species of animal, illustrating its distinguishing features and statistics such as size and habitat to allow young nature enthusiasts to spot them at the zoo. It also features clear and detailed illustrations. The pocket-sized cards make an easy, convenient and informative companion for all family visits to the zoo or safari.

These cards are fantastic. It wasn’t just Bella who liked them but Sienna also enjoyed playing with them too. I think she likes looking at the pictures of the animals. This had them both entertained for a while which is always great!

This subscription box is very easy to use. See below:

HOW IT WORKS

You can subscribe to Bookawoo and have a delivery every month. Your first box will cost €26.95 and then after €29.95 for every other month for one child and €49.95 for two children. It is good to know that you can also unsubscribe at any time. At the moment they only ship their boxes to Ireland and the United Kingdom.

I like that it can be bought as a one off box for a gift as well as a monthly subscription. This is very useful as sometimes you don’t know what to give a child for special occasions and I think this is a perfect gift.

When you sign up to Bookawoo you will be charged immediately for the subscription you have chosen. Subscriptions will then renew on the 25th of the following month. All Bookawoo boxes ship on the 5th of each month, and will be delivered within 2-3 days.

These boxes are a great idea. We really like the content and the purpose of them. I love the idea of Bella being able to learn about new authors, and read different stories and expand her vocabulary. I haven’t seen or read these books before so it was great to find out more about them.

What do you think of this subscription service? Do you like this box? What  do you think about the content of this box? Do you like the books? Have you heard of Bookawoo before? Will this be something that you would like to try for your kids? Leave a comment as I would love to hear what you think.

*Disclaimer: I received this box in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and is a genuine representation of what I think.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

The box and contents look great. I think this would be a fantastic gift idea, but for me it would be a bit too expensive as a monthly item.

I’ve never heard of Bookawoo before. But it looks fab! I love the variety of what’s in the box. So you have the colouring, the bedtime stories and the more factual books too. It;’s great. My daughter is in reception and is loving learning how to read. We are getting a bit bored of Biff, Chip and Kipper so this would be great to mix it up a little.
