Burning Calories With The Varidesk Pro Plus 36 – Review

amomentwithfranca · 8 September 2018 · 42 Comments

I spend a lot of time working on a desk at home. Nick also works from a desk for his job. This means that we spend a lot of time sitting down and not always being as active as we would like to be. There are many drawbacks to sitting too much and being sat behind a desk all day has been linked to various health conditions and is thought to contribute towards a sedentary lifestyle. Varidesk has a solution for this. Varidesk can turn any desk into a standing desk in minutes. How cool is that?

They sent us one to try to see if it helped us get up a little more from our desks and do some work standing up. It is available in black and white (this is the colour we received) and their prices range from £150 to £365 for the popular Pro Plus 36 which is the standing desk we received to review.

According to government figures, one in three British children under the age of 15 are overweight or obese. For the future of our society, we need to confront these issues head-on, nurture and support upcoming generations to get only the best start in life.

Research shows that standing at desks for three hours a day, five days a week could burn an extra 30,000 calories a year, which is the equivalent of running 10 marathons! At Varidesk they go above and beyond to provide you with the perfect solution, turning any desk into a standing desk in a matter of minutes. This is definitely an innovation.

Features

  • Two-tier design: upper display surface, lower keyboard/mouse deck
  • Dual handle design
  • Spring-loaded boost
  • Up to 11 height settings
  • The largest model (Pro Plus 48) holds up to 45 lbs (20.4 kg)
  • Sits on top of an existing desk
  • Sturdy and stable even when fully extended

Opening the Box

Seating Position

Stand Up Position

When we opened the box we were pleased to see that it didn’t need assembling and just fitted onto the top of our current desk. It is quite heavy though but this is to be expected to allow for it to extend higher. The Varidesk Pro Plus 36 comes out of the box in position for a seated desk.

We found it to be quite big in size, maybe a little too big for our home. Perhaps the smaller size would have been better for us. It’s also available in 30 inch, 36 inch and 48 inch sizes. They also have smaller products for compact spaces which could have been better suited for a small office area, however, the Varidesk Pro Plus 36’s technology is outstanding.

Testing The Varidesk Pro Plus 36

The Varidesk Pro Plus 36 has a two-tiered design and is big enough to fit 3 laptops on. This gives you enough space to work should you need to. Alternatively, if you have a desktop, you can fit 2 monitors and a keyboard on the bottom of the desk or a laptop and desktop at the same time. so if this is something you need when you are working, the Pro Plus 36is definitely big enough and can expand your working space too.

Changing the desk from standing to sitting is so easy. There are little clips on the side of the desk, just under the top shelf that clip open when you need to change position. All you do is gently pull the desk up towards you until you have reached the required height. The spring-loaded boost has 11 different height settings so it doesn’t matter if you are tall or short, the desk can be adjusted to you and where you feel comfortable working at.

Video

See below a video we filmed where Nick shows you how it works:

Varidesk Pro Plus 36 Standing Desk

Our Thoughts

We both agree it is a good thing to be able to stand up and move a bit instead of sitting down all day and the Varidesk Pro Plus 36 is perfect for those who don’t like to sit down all day but still need to be working at the same time.

Our only concern is the size but I guess it will be perfect for an office or for someone that has an office room in their home. But as I mentioned above, they have different sizes for different requirements. The health benefits of being able to stand up and stretch your legs while working is certainly one of the best features of this product. It is very sturdy, of high quality and is incredibly easy to adjust up and down. Best of all, you can burn more calories! Hurrah for that! 🙂

Do you work long hours sitting at a desk? Do you feel the need to stretch your legs very often? Have you thought about a product like this? What do you think of the Varidesk Pro Plus 36? Will you get one?

*Disclosure: we received a Varidesk Pro Plus 36 for the purpose of this review. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. It contains affiliate links.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

Wow! I never even thought that just standing up instead of sitting down could make such a difference over a year, and, to be honest, at work, it would be easier because I’m always having to leave my workstation to deal with customers!

What a great invention! I’ve often thought I’d prefer to stand at my desk at work to ease lower back pain but the fact that this is adjustable from one position to another is perfect. I’ll be showing my boss in the morning!!!

This is pretty impressive. The size was my first thought too, especially since I work at home, and I don’t have an actual office. But I think this is a great idea. My family is prone to blood clots and sitting for long periods of time can cause them, so I love this idea!

I have seen these advertised and I wondered how well they worked. I actually work from my bed because of Chronic Illness but if I could have use of a desk, I think I would love this product. When I did sit at a desk all day, the after lunch slump was horrible and this would be perfect for those time when it is hard to stay awake! LOL

I spend a lot of time sat at my desk at home blogging and doing other things on my laptop. At my day job I spend a majority of the time on my feet so sitting down when I come home is needed lol. I can definitely see the benefits of a standing desk, something to think about in the future.

I feel a bit silly responding to this post sitting in my pjs in bed. BUT, I can definitely see the benefits of having a desk that allows you to sit and stand. We sit down too much these days and our lives have become pretty sentient really if you compare it to a few short decades ago. Love and hate computers in equal measure. Thank you for hosting #KCACOLS Franca, very much appreciated.

It’s amazing how much difference standing up can make. When I worked in an office we had standing desks available to use. Now that I work from home I have to set a reminder in my calendar to get up and go for a walk 🙂 #KCACOLS

✨Happy Friday✨.Did you have a good week? Unf ✨Happy Friday✨.Did you have a good week? Unfortunately, it wasn’t that good for us because the girls have been under the weather. Bella started first with a sore throat and high fever for a few days and then when Bella got better, Sienna started! She got a horrible cough but no temperature. Her cough was that bad that she couldn’t sleep very well for a couple of nights. They are both much better now and back to school.. The weather hasn’t helped either. It has been so cold lately! I literally feel frozen all the time. Thankfully it is looking better atm as the temperatures are starting to rise. I decided to get my flu vaccine, so I hope it protects me from all these viruses that are going around! Have you had the flu vaccine too? .On another note, I went yesterday to a parents meeting about GCSE options for Bella. I can’t believe she needs to think about it already ahead of Year 9.
