Castle Hotel Windsor Review

amomentwithfranca · 13 February 2016 · 41 Comments

Getting through January and February is not that easy as it feels like an eternity to finally start feeling some warmth and watching the sky getting sunnier. At the moment its wet and dark which is not very nice, so I was really in need of a good cheer up. I was extremely happy when I got the most amazing invitation ever!! Yes guys, I was invited to the launch of a new hotel in Windsor: Castle Hotel Windsor MGallery Collection. I was over the moon as I was not only invited to the launch event but also to stay over night and have breakfast in the morning!! They wanted me to experience everything the hotel has to offer, to which I replied, “YES please I would love that!!” 🙂 lol

This invitation was music to my ears as I don’t know when was the last time I had the option to stay in a hotel like this without children! For me, this was the best part of all. Of course, because someone needs to stay with the girls at home, Nick couldn’t come with me this time which was a total shame as I know he would’ve loved to experience this too. This time my plus one was my amazing sister-in-law, Emma. We have never had a night out alone without the brothers so we were very happy to give that a go!! 😉

It takes you only 30 minutes to get to Windsor and Eaton Central Station from Paddington Station. I was impressed about how quickly I was already in Windsor. This is the perfect getaway for the weekend. The hotel couldn’t be better located than this as it was just a short walk from the station. I met Emma at the station and we walked to the hotel. Windsor is just so pretty and I love the cute shops around.

When we arrived to the hotel I was so amazed that just literally being outside the entrance of the hotel you can see Windsor Castle. The view is just impressive. They had the hotel decorated for the launch party so there were blue neon lights outside which made it look even more beautiful. This hotel is so pretty. It was funny because I knew I was in a hotel but I never felt like I was in one. I felt that I was in a big beautiful Georgian house, feeling very cosy and having the best hosts ever treating me like a Queen. I’m not sure if you get what I mean. It has a friendly and homely atmosphere that you feel at home but in the most comfortable settings!

To understand a little bit more about the story of Castle Hotel Windsor, it began life in 1528 as The Mermaid Inn – humbly brewing beer and cider for the people of Windsor: then scarcely a town of 1,000 people. However, in the 1700s the innkeeper Richard Martin was awarded the first of the hotel’s eight Royal Warrants – to provide horses and carriages for the royal household – and the hotel grew with the population of Windsor to become one of the grandest hotels in town. By the 19th century Castle Hotel was unrivalled as the finest place to stay in Windsor. The newly renamed Castle Hotel Windsor recently underwent a huge refurbishment, completely transforming its appearance to what is now a fantastic elegant and cosy 4 star hotel.

When Emma and I walked through the entrance doors, we were fascinated to discover authentic features and lovingly restored decor. We were greeted and taken to the reception of the hotel which was at the back. They were all very friendly. Our room was outside the main building. We had to walk through their parking area to another cute building called, The Castle Mews. It was just 5 minutes walk. We had to go through some stairs to get there.

OMG when we saw our room we were both so incredibly happy. It was just beautiful. We had a twin bedroom and it was very spacious and beautifully decorated. The size of the single beds were perfect with super soft mattresses. The pillows were also super comfy, using the finest Egyptian cotton. We had the best sleep ever.

They have 108 bedrooms that follow the Georgian elegance of the hotel and each one has been beautifully decorated with a refined take on a contemporary design. The room comes with coffee/tea making facilities which also includes a lovely Nespresso coffee machine with 3 pods to choose from, mini bar, kettle, huge TV, hair drier, bathrobe and slippers, radio, iron. They also offered free High Speed WIFI Internet in your room and in the whole hotel which I thought was great! They also had power sockets everywhere, especially by the bedside where they put about 3 sockets. I thought that was fantastic. They also have really cute reading lights by your bedside. When we came back to the room to go to bed we found that they had left us a little box with 2 lovely chocolates!! It was so sweet!

The bathroom was very big and modern. It has a bathtub and modern buttons to operate the shower waterfall, handheld shower and bath. It was very easy to use. Something that I consider a plus in this bathroom as in other hotel bathrooms you can spend a fair amount of time trying to figure it out how it works. Here you had none of that, it was simple and easy to control the temperature of the water too. They also provided complementary accessories such as luxury Lanvin toiletries.

We did a tour of the hotel and we were shown a large area where they can host events, ceremonies and weddings. I thought it could be a magical place for a wedding. The room was all set up for that type of occasion so we could see the potential. It was beautiful. We saw their different types of room (Classic King Size and Classic Single Rooms, Superior King Size Room and The Royal Warrant Holder Deluxe Suite). The Suite was amazing! They also have facilities for a family as they have available connecting rooms. You could also pay extra to get an extra bed in the room for a child. You can get room service facilities too.

The party was great and lively. We all gathered at the entrance of the hotel where they had a lounge next to a beautiful and elegant fireplace. There was some live music with a lovely singer. They were offering drinks such as champagne and delicious canapes! The have another relaxing area next to the bar where you can sit down, have a drink or eat. In the restaurant they had a display buffet for us. It was just delicious. Their salmon was just the best I have had in a long time! Everything was high quality and really tasty!!

Before we started the tour around the hotel we were greeted by a barman who was doing some tricks and they gave us a blue cocktail. I don’t remember what was the name of this cocktail but I remember it has vodka mixed with rum so you can see from there that I should’ve been careful not to drink more than one!! It was really nice! I don’t really drink but that night I really fancied a nice cocktail and this one was perfect.

We stayed at the launch party having a good time with other bloggers until around midnight. After that we called it “a night” and went back to our room. I was actually dreaming for that moment, LOL! Of course it didn’t disappoint me as I had the most relaxing night ever. I slept like a baby that night – Amazing! The next morning we changed and packed our things and then we went to their restaurant to have some breakfast. It was lovely. We had the option to order a continental breakfast and/or cooked breakfast. Emma and I ordered scramble eggs with toast. She also had salmon. They also gave us the best fresh orange juice ever, which was just delicious. They had different options of fresh juices. We had coffee and then we went around their breakfast display. They had pastries, cereals, cheeses and yoghurts. It was a good selection. Everything that I tried I really enjoyed!

After that it was time to go back home. We walked to the station and on the way we stopped in front of Windsor Castle and took some photos! The Castle is just next to the hotel, which is very convenient! I really wanted to stay for the day and explore around more as my last time in Windsor was in 2005, a long time ago. I had to get back home to take care of Sienna so I had to rush to the station. I promise to come back as I loved everything!

If you would like to have a lovely weekend away in Windsor, I recommend you to check the Castle Hotel Windsor MGallery Collection website. You can book a room from £108.00. They are located at 18 High Street, Windsor, West Berkshire SL4 1LJ.

*Disclaimer: I was invited to this launch event at the Castle Hotel Windsor and I also stayed for one night. Everything that I have written here is all my own opinion. Some of the photos were provided from the hotel’s website.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

Oh wow, that’s an amazing invitation! Sounds like you had a lovely time. I love the look of that bath – for some reason I always have to have a bath whenever we stay at a hotel! And that food looks exquisite. Also, any hotel which leaves me chocolates is a winner for me 🙂 #KCACOLS xx

The interior looks very plush. A night without husband and child, crikey I would have been tempted to just spend it in bed and order room service 🙂 but then I would have missed out on all that lovely food in your photos. Glad you had a nice time. Have a nice week off this week. #KCACOLS

✨Happy Friday✨.Did you have a good week? Unf ✨Happy Friday✨.Did you have a good week? Unfortunately, it wasn’t that good for us because the girls have been under the weather. Bella started first with a sore throat and high fever for a few days and then when Bella got better, Sienna started! She got a horrible cough but no temperature. Her cough was that bad that she couldn’t sleep very well for a couple of nights. They are both much better now and back to school.. The weather hasn’t helped either. It has been so cold lately! I literally feel frozen all the time. Thankfully it is looking better atm as the temperatures are starting to rise. I decided to get my flu vaccine, so I hope it protects me from all these viruses that are going around! Have you had the flu vaccine too? .On another note, I went yesterday to a parents meeting about GCSE options for Bella. I can’t believe she needs to think about it already ahead of Year 9. The time really goes fast. Are your kids dealing with GCSEs too?.📸 Sharing this beautiful bouquet of flowers from @freddiesflowers to brighten up our day.#flowerarrangement #flowerdelivery #bouquetofflowers #flowersmakemehappy #loveflowers #flowersoftheday #flowersoftheweek #flowerlover #freshflowers #flowerobsession #bunchofflowers #foreverflowers #flowersofinstagram #homesweethome
