How to Entertain the Kids When it Rains On Holiday

amomentwithfranca · 8 August 2017 · 1 Comment

Taking the kids on holiday can sometimes be a mixed bag. We all look forward to getting away for a few days, but if the weather doesn’t play ball or someone gets sick, the whole experience soon goes downhill. Whilst there isn’t a lot you can do if one of the kids picks up a tummy bug on holiday, a few rainy days don’t need to spell disaster. Here’s how to have fun, whatever the weather, when taking the kids on holiday.

Have a Contingency Plan

Check the weather forecast before you head on your annual family holiday. The sunshine is pretty much guaranteed if you head to somewhere like Florida, but in some places, you may have to deal with some rain.

It’s a good idea to be prepared for bad weather. Make sure you have packed the coats for the kids and some decent shoes. Sandals are great for hot weather but less comfortable in the rain. You can pick up a cheap umbrella and rain coat, but investing in new shoes could blow the budget right out of the water.

Investigate Rainy Day Attractions

Research local attractions before you leave home. Make a list of places to visit and things to do. Put them in two columns: nice weather and wet weather. Many attractions such as museums and galleries can be visited whatever the weather, but if it’s pouring down, the kids will have more fun in an interactive museum where they can learn new things.

If it’s still warm, despite the rain, don’t dismiss a few fun outdoor pursuits. Water parks are great fun in warm and wet weather. Pools are usually heated at water parks, so the kids are not going to catch a cold. You don’t have to get wet if you prefer – sit indoors drinking a coffee and reading a book while the kids splash around for a couple of hours, playing on water slides and practicing their diving techniques.

Visit the Cinema or Theater

A rainy day is a great opportunity to catch the latest blockbuster at the nearest multiplex or watch a family-friendly theatre production. Look online for the latest movies showing near you. Browse for available tickets for a range of productions in major towns and cities from www.ticketsales.com and spend an afternoon watching a show. The kids will love it!

Walking in the Rain

Exploring a city in the rain is more fun than you might imagine. Pull on some rubber boots, a rain mac, and take a walk. Younger kids love to splash in puddles and get wet. For them, it’s the best activity ever. When you have had enough, stop for a hot drink at a café and treat the kids to hot chocolate and cake.

Keep Smiling

Don’t let the rain drag down your mood. Just because it’s raining, it doesn’t mean your vacation is ruined. Keep smiling and roll with it. The kids will have fun whatever the weather.

What do you think of these ideas? Do you have more to add to this list?
