Everdine Review: Clean Eating Made Simple

amomentwithfranca · 2 July 2017 · 4 Comments

I am not very good at cooking. I honestly don’t think it’s for me so I am very grateful to my hubby who does like cooking. Having said that, he can’t cook all the time, so I don’t have a problem admitting that we buy a lot of frozen meals for the week. It is convenient, practical, quick, easy and tidy! We normally get these from the supermarket but it can be a struggle finding variation. It can be boring and plain so when I was asked by Everdine to try their subscription box of frozen meals I of course agreed. I was really looking forward to trying their service.

Everdine Review: Clean Eating Made Simple

Everdine offers clean and wholesome gourmet meals cooked, frozen and delivered to your home or office by free nationwide DPD courier-delivery. Most of their meals are ready to eat in around 10 minutes putting the simple in “Eating clean made simple”.

Why would you choose Everdine instead of a frozen or ready cooked meal from the supermarket? I would say the difference is that you will find this food very tasty and nutritious. They have great variation and include a little bit of everything which is great. On top of that, they are very healthy as their average calories in a meal is around 4oo which is pretty good if you want to follow a diet and don’t have the patience or time to prepare and cook meals every day.

THE EVERDINE FORMULA

  • Mindful Sourcing – All Everdine meats and fish are sustainably sourced. They use only the best ingredients from suppliers they know well and who meet their strict quality standards.
  • Skilful Cooking – Their chefs are trained in Michelin-starred restaurants and create unique, wholesome and delicious meals.
  • Natural Preservation – Freezing locks in all the natural goodness with no need for artificial preservatives and using sheep wool insulates your food during delivery.
  • Guaranteed Delivery – Their experienced couriers will always try to find a safe spot to leave the parcel in case no one is available.
  • Clever and Convenient Heating Up – Microwaving is one of the most nutrient-preserving heat-up methods as well as quick and easy. They recommend it for most of their dishes.

HOW DOES IT WORK

You just need to go to the Everdine website to choose your plan. It’s very easy to navigate because everything is well explained and to be honest, very straight forward. The meals are great to have for lunch or dinner, so having it a work could be an option too.

You can choose between a classic or a vegetarian plan. I chose their 8 Classic Meals option which costs £55.20 in total, so it is about £6.90 per meal. The meals are automatic selected but you can change the selections if you are not happy with them. I actually did that because I wanted to order other meals.

I decided to share my meals with my hubby Nick, so we chose 4 each. We then chose our delivery time (either Friday or Saturday) and the frequency of the deliveries. That was pretty much it. We just needed to wait for the delivery date to receive our box.

The good thing is that you can pause or cancel your plan at any time.  They also offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee which I thought was great.

DELIVERY

The delivery service is very good. You receive a message on the day of the delivery with a 1 hr time slot for the delivery of your box so then you can make sure someone will be there around that time.

My box arrived on time in perfect condition. Everything was very well packed using sheep’s wool for insulation as well as a lot of ice packs so my meals were kept cool. Their packaging is recyclable which is great to reduce waste.

It is recommended to put your meals in the freezer as soon as they arrive to keep them frozen and fresh, so I did this straight away. I also received some information about Everdine and the list of the meals we ordered.

OUR MEALS

Each meal weighs 450g approx which is perfect for one person. I found the portions very filling. I was never hungry after eating my meals.

It is very quick and easy to prepare. You just need to microwave it (sometimes you will need to oven heat  the meal) and it will be ready within a few minutes for you to enjoy. You will need to take out the cardboard sleeve for all the meals. For some meals, you will need to remove any pots that are inside the meal. Or you will need to pierce the film or have it half open. All the cooking instructions are very clearly displayed. Once warmed up, you just need to serve it and eat! Very simple!

Franca’s Meals

  • Roasted Cauliflower & Barley Risotto – 433 kcal – 7 minutes in the microwave

Barley combined with the flavour of roasted cauliflower, char-grilled vegetables and toasted hazelnuts. Cauliflower is a bit of an unsung hero, as it’s high in vitamin C, K and B6 as well as omega-3 fatty acids and dietary fibres.

  • Mushroom Spaghetti Carbonara – 370 kcal – 8 minutes in the microwave

Delicious and healthy twist to a classic carbonara. The celeriac puree gives a creamy texture, perfect for people who want indulgence without unnecessary calories. The wholewheat pasta helps you get the recommended intake of whole grains, and oyster mushrooms serve as a great source of iron and protein.

  • Slow Cooked Beef & Beetroot Bourguignon – 291 kcal – 9 minutes in the microwave

The beef brisket is slow-cooked and then pulled. The sauce is stewed for extra flavours, and together with beetroot blends in perfectly. This dish is high in antioxidants, iron and protein.

  • Lentil & Quinoa Moussaka – 410 kcal – 9 minutes in the microwave

Traditional Greek ingredients. Slowly cooked tomatoes develop a natural sweetness – red wine vinegar restores a balanced flavour profile. The aubergines are packed with antioxidants thanks to the nasunin in their skin. Two super-grains, lentils and quinoa, add texture to the sauce.

From all 4 meals, my favourite was the carbonara! It was delicious! Very tasty! My least favourite was the roasted cauliflower meal. I didn’t enjoy it. I don’t know why but I think it had too many veggies for me. I love veggies but didn’t like the combination in this dish. The other two meals were very tasty too and I really enjoyed them. Slow cooked beef was delicious. The beef was very tender.

Nick’s Meals

  • Black Bean Chilli Burrito – 596 kcal – 40 minutes in the oven

Healthy burrito with mixed beans and with smoked paprika and chipotle, alongside brown rice and delicious, salty halloumi, all enveloped in a soft spinach wrap.

  • Chilli Con Carne with Brown Rice – 459 kcal – 8 minutes in the microwave

High in flavour and low in salt. Rich in protein from slow cooked pulled beef and beans. The beans and succotash of corn nicely balance out the heat from the sauce. Quinoa and brown rice are packed with fibre and other essential nutrients.

  • Piri Piri Chicken – 508 kcal – 10 minutes in the microwave

Char-gilled chicken breast with sweet potato, red rice, Basmati rice, spinach and sweetcorn. It also comes with a pot of pumpkin seeds.

  • Roast Duck Breast & Blueberries – 437 kcal – 8 minutes in the microwave

Lightly-marinated duck breast paired with delicious greens, blanched to bring out flavours while keeping nutrients intact, finished with a smooth and flavourful cherry sauce. Rich in protein, iron, vitamin B6 and niacin, and wonderfully gourmet.

Nick favourite meal was the roast duck breast and blueberries, which he was surprised by as he doesn’t normally like blueberries but the combined with the duck and the vegetables it was all very good. He enjoyed all his dishes but his least favourite was the black bean chilli burrito, not because it wasn’t good, it just didn’t look as appealing as the other dishes and wasn’t as filling as the others either. Overall he was very surprised and impressed.

OUR THOUGHTS

We really liked this service. The meals were really good. It is very easy and simple to use. The meals are very tasty with a lot of flavours. They have a lot of meals to choose from and they are also healthy. It was nice not having to worry about cooking or preparing your food.

Have you tried Everdine before? Do you like frozen meals? What do you think of this subscription box?

*Disclosure: We were asked by Tornado to review Everdine services for the purpose of this review. However, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

Never heard of this company, but will certainly take a look, because my elderly mother-in-law prefers these, ready meals as its a whole lot easier for her

I’ve looked at a few meal delivery companies and I have to say these meals look much more appetising. I am very tempted to give them a try.

I like the idea of picking your own meals. Maybe a bit of sharing too.
