I received the Dangly Charms kit from Interplay to review with Bella. You can make 6 fabulous “bang on trend” projects which can be used as a colourful key-ring, hang from your belt bags and much more. This is part of the myStyle range of products that Interplay is offering to kids to have some fun. Now that we are in the middle of the holidays this kit is perfect to keep our kids entertained.
This kit has been developed by a professional jewellery designer and using only top quality components, your kids can create your own fabulous Dangly Charms. This sounds fantastic right?
The box is cute and the design too. I like the pink colours on it. Just when we received the box Bella was ready to go away for a week to her aunt’s house to spend some time with her cousin, so we decided that it could be fun for her to take the Dangly Charms with her. She set time aside to do some craft activities with her aunt who is really good at this kind of thing so it was the perfect opportunity to give this a go.
The box comes with the following items:
- Polymer Clay – 4 colours
- Satin Ribbon – 3 colours
- 3 x Key Rings
- 3 x Clips
- 6 x Chains
- 3 x Marabou Feathers
- 3 x Clamshell Clasp
- 8 x Jump Rings
- 2 x Heart Shaped Beads
- 2 x Star Shaped Beads
- 2 x Pink “Diamond Cut” Beads
- 2 x Purple “Diamond Cut” Beads
- 1.5m Plastic Coated Wire
- 4 x Toothpicks
- 24 Page Instruction Manual
I glanced through the instruction manual before Bella went away and I thought it was really good as it explains very well what you have to do step by step. It comes with colour illustrations and each step has photos with accompanying explanations, making it very clear and easy to follow.
The box has enough contents to make 6 projects. What I was told by Bella and her aunt is that these are definitely not quick projects. They take time and are a little bit fiddly. This box is actually for children aged 8 and over, so this is something to bear in mind when buying this. Bella is only 6 years old so we knew from the start that she would need supervision to be able to do this. She had her aunt helping her at each step.
Bella and her aunty decided to do the first project which was, Key Ring no 1. They started with the polymer clay which they had 4 colours to choose from. At the end of the instruction book they take you through each step of how to make ordinary clay into beads of different shapes and sizes and of course what you need to do in order to make gorgeous clay charms. They chose the purple clay and the pink clay to make a small heart charm and then a flower charm. With a toothpick they made a hole at the top.
They added 2 x Pink “Diamond Cut” Beads and 1 x Purple “Diamond Cut” Bead. Then they also added a Satin Ribbon and a Marabou Feather in purple colour. They used the required clips, chains, clamshell clasp, jump rings, key ring and wire to turn them into a gorgeous dangly charm!
I thought the final result was fantastic as it looks really great and chic. Bella will be able to add it to her collection of key rings she has on her school bag. When she is back to school in September she will be able to show it to all her friends and tell them how she made it with the help of her aunt. I will definitely make the other projects with her so I can have one for my house keys! 😉
The main thing your kids can learn is how to make different shaped beads, different coloured beads, and even marbled beads with the polymer clay. There are so much interesting things that your kids can learn with this kit.
The feedback I got from my sister in law and also Bella is that this set is probably most suitable for a child who is about 10 years old as this is the perfect age where they can do these projects on their own without supervision. I guess they will feel excited to have the freedom to create such fantastic and cool dangly charms. They need to sit down and engross themselves in the project as it is not a quick one. Patience is therefore very important and is something most 6 years olds tend to lack. This is why they only managed to do one project over an afternoon. Again, bear this in mind when buying this kit.
Dangly Charms retails at £7.99 and you can get it from different stores such as Amazon. If you would like to find more about Interplay and their cool myStyle range you can check them on Facebook, or Instagram.
