May has always been a busy month for us because we have a lot of birthdays and other celebrations such as our wedding anniversary that also falls in this month. This year I was wondering how the celebrations would be due to the lockdown but despite that, we actually all had a lovely time.
During May we had Bella’s 10th birthday, my sister’s birthday, my birthday, Mother’s Day in Peru, Blog Anniversary and our wedding anniversary. These celebrations were different this year but at the same time, they were lovely and special. I don’t think we will ever forget May 2020.
1. Bella’s 10th Birthday
My eldest daughter finally reached 10 years old! I cannot believe she now has reached 2 digits. She was talking about this day for months and it finally happened. I wasn’t sure how she would feel not having a proper party this year but she surprised me as she didn’t complain at all and she really enjoyed her day.
We organised Zoom parties for her. So she had a Zoom party with her friends at school around lunchtime. They all sang happy birthday to her and had a chat for a little bit before the school timetable resumed. She then had a Zoom party with her dad’s side of the family and then with my family. This was the first time we were doing a Zoom call with my family that is in Peru and in Switzerland. It was really cool for us all to experience that.
Regarding presents, she was so easy this year too. She only wanted Amazon vouchers as she was keen to choose her own presents. She said she felt more grown-up doing that and we thought it was a perfect idea and very convenient due to the lockdown.
2. My eldest sister’s birthday
Turkenschanzpark, Viena
My eldest sister lives between Austria and Switzerland. She has been in Vienna for 13 years but her husband got a new job a year ago in Baden so they have been between both countries. When the lockdown started they were actually in Vienna so they stayed most of the time there. As soon as the lockdown was starting to ease, they moved back to Baden.
Her birthday is very close to mine so we tried to celebrate them together. Many times she has been here in London visiting or we would sometimes travel to Vienna. This year this was not an option for us at all so we had to accommodate and organise another Zoom call with the family. It was lovely to be all together again. We are very close so it felt so nice to celebrate her birthday that way.
3.My 43rd Birthday
I love my birthday. I know some people don’t like to celebrate or prefer to treat it like a normal day but I am completely the opposite. I really like to celebrate it and love receiving calls, messages, e-cards, presents, etc. However, this year I was wondering how a lockdown birthday would be for me. I was worried it will be just another day but I was surprisingly happy to actually experienced a wonderful day despite the lockdown.
I organised a few Zoom parties too but this year I did something different which made my birthday even more special. I organised a Zoom party with my school friends from Peru. This is something that I have never done before, just a video call with one person but not with more people in it, so I was so excited about it. The night before my birthday, I managed to put together about 12 of my school friends from Peru and one was in Mexico. We met at 11:30 pm and waited until midnight to sing happy birthday! I loved it! This really made it a unique birthday as I haven’t celebrated my birthday with my friends since I was living in Peru. It was awesome!
On my actual birthday, I had a Zoom party with my in-laws and then later on that day, I had another Zoom party with my family. I absolutely loved the feeling of having my family so close to me on that day. I am so thankful for Zoom because now we can celebrate special occasions like this with people around the world. It is amazing!
4. Mother’s Day in Peru
Mummy Daughter 1979
Sunday 9th May was Mother’s Day in Peru and in a lot of other countries too. Perhaps most of the countries celebrate it in May apart from the UK which celebrates it in March. It is sad that I cannot celebrate this day with my mother anymore but we always talk and she knows I am always thinking of her. This is one of the disadvantages of living abroad and obviously now even worse with Covid19.
I miss my mum a lot. We were so close when I was living in Peru. We loved doing things together and I always have all those lovely memories of us together in my mind. One of my best memories is when we travelled together just the two of us to Europe. My mum wanted to take me on a mum and daughter trip and explore together so many wonderful countries. We went to Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Monaco, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary. This was the most amazing trip. I enjoyed every minute of it.
5. 5th Blog Anniversary
This year my blog and social media turned 5 years. I can’t believe I have been doing this for so long! I still remember the day that I decided to start this crazy journey. I wasn’t sure if it would work but I was so excited to give it a go. And now, we are still here after 5 years!
Also, something very special happened in May. I finally reached 20k on Instagram. And you know when this actually happened? It happened on the day that my blog turned 5 years. How crazy is that? It couldn’t be more special for me.
6. 12th Wedding Anniversary
Wedding Day May 2008
And finally one of the most special celebrations during May is my wedding anniversary. I cannot believe we are 12 years together. They have been the best 12 years that I have ever had. I remember our wedding day like it happened yesterday.
We couldn’t go away this year due to the lockdown. It was sad as we talked about going away for our anniversary every year. Last year we went to Rhodes and Symi and we absolutely loved it. We had the most amazing time. Hopefully, we can go back to celebrate it like that next year.
Trip To Rhodes May 2019
I couldn’t ask for a better husband. He is my best friend and a great father to our daughters. He listens to me (and I do talk a lot so you can imagine how important this is lol) and the most important thing, he makes me laugh a lot. For me, this is the centre of our marriage. A few years ago I wrote a letter sharing my feelings about him. If you fancy a ready, you can check it here.
So these are all the celebrations I had in May. I enjoyed each of them. Of course, we couldn’t celebrate them as we normally would due to Covid19 but they were actually even more special to me than other years.
Did you also have a lockdown celebration? What is your busiest month?
Thanks for stopping by,
Love you all ❤️

Wow. You missed out on a lot this May. I’ve come to realise we didn’t realise how lucky we’ve been in all our past celebrations. I’ve been very sad for a few friends whose 50th got mucked up. I think because I had such a fabulous time for mine that I feel sorry they missed out on the same. It was such a happy time for me. I guess in the grand scheme of things it won’t matter but still…#KCACOLS (and congratulations on the 12 years of marriage)

I love all these celebrations – what a busy month! Thank God for Zoom is all I can say. I’m not sure I’d have got through lockdown without it. And I’m exactly the same as you, I LOVE my birthday. I’m 40 and still act like I’m eight years old. My husband thinks it’s hilarious. #KCACOLS

We had a few lockdown birthdays between April and May here.
