Ravensburger Penguin Pile-Up Board Game Review

amomentwithfranca · 19 June 2017 · 5 Comments

Now that Sienna is getting older, we are starting to enjoy family board games even more. She understands better what a game means and she loves being part of it with us. Also, it gets more interesting when you have more players to play with. We received the latest Ravensburger board game, Penguin Pile-Up to review in anticipation of National Unplugging Day which takes place this Sunday 25th June. Ravensburger are eager to get parents involved and to celebrate that day from sun-up to sun-down without technology! Will we manage?

I saw this game at Toy Fair at the start of the year and thought it was looked like a lot fun, so I was looking forward to trying it with my family.

This game is great fun to play. It comes with a 3D balancing iceberg which is super cool. It can be played solo or with up to 6 players for ages 5 years and above and each game last approximately 15 minutes. Even though it says it is for children aged 5, it is actually very simple to play and children younger than 5 are more than capable of playing it. My youngest, Sienna is almost 3 and she played it very well!

CONTENTS

The game includes:

  • 1x “wobbly” plastic iceberg
  • 24x penguin figures instructions
  • instructions

GETTING READY

Before playing for the first time, you need to put together the 24 penguins. They click together really easily and it only takes a few minutes. Both girls were very happy to help put the penguins together. They found it quite fun to do. The penguins are really cute!

AIM OF THE GAME

The aim of this game is to get all your penguins onto the wobbly iceberg. This may seem pretty straightforward but let me tell you: it is not! The iceberg wobbles a lot so it makes it very difficult. You pick up a penguin and try to carefully place him on the iceberg but will he stand firm, wobble or tumble down? You will have to be very careful because any penguins you knock down, you’ll have to pick up and keep.

The first player to put all of their penguins onto the iceberg is the winner. Penguin Pile-Up is a fun game for young children, but older children and even adults will enjoy it too.

PLAYING

The instructions suggest starting with the youngest player, so Sienna was the first to place one of her penguins onto the iceberg. She did a fab job because she managed to get the penguin to stay in place. The player to the left then takes a turn.

This game has brought a lot of entertainment to the house because when we are not playing together, Bella has loved playing it on her own. It is great to know that she can play it on her own where she can try to improve her best time.

This game has an RRP of £14.99 and is available to buy at all good toy stores like Amazon. See the details below:

OUR THOUGHTS

We really love this game. It is a lot of fun to play and it has kept my girls entertained. It is great that a game can bring a family together but it’s also great that the game can be played alone too! We have had a few fun Sunday afternoons playing this game. We laughed a lot!

If you would like to check what other games Ravensburger have, you can check their website HERE for more details.

What do you think of this game? Have you played it before? Will you be going technology free on Sunday 25th June?

*Disclosure: We received this game for the purpose of this review. However, all thought and opinions are my own. Contains Affiliate link.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

I just purchased the mini penguin pile up game without instructions. So what I would like to know is how do you set up the game to start?
