If you’re looking for what’s on in London and fancy a theatre night filled with laughter, satire and classic musical comedy, The Producers at the Garrick Theatre should be firmly on your list. This bold and outrageous musical has returned to the West End in its first major London revival, and it’s already proving to be a huge hit with audiences.
Nick and I recently enjoyed a West End date night to see The Producers, and from start to finish it was funny, entertaining and full of energy — the kind of show that reminds you why London theatre is so special.
The Producers Musical London Review: A Hilarious West End Hit at the Garrick Theatre
What Is The Producers About?
Based on Mel Brooks’ cult classic film, The Producers tells the story of Max Bialystock, a failing Broadway producer, and Leo Bloom, a timid accountant. Together, they hatch a scheme to get rich by intentionally producing a guaranteed flop. The plan? Raise too much money, stage a terrible show, watch it fail… and keep the profits.
However, things don’t go quite to plan when their intentionally awful production becomes an unexpected smash hit, leading to chaos, comedy and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
The original Broadway production went on to win a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, and this London revival proves exactly why the musical remains so popular years later.
The West End Revival at the Garrick Theatre
This new London revival transferred to the Garrick Theatre after a sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and it has been reimagined by Tony Award-winning director Patrick Marber.
The cast delivers triumphant performances across the board, with standout energy, sharp comedic timing and brilliant musical numbers. The show is bold, self-aware and unapologetically silly — very much in true Mel Brooks style.
From the moment the curtain goes up, the audience is fully engaged, and the laughter barely stops. The atmosphere inside the theatre was fantastic, and by the end, the cast received a well-deserved standing ovation.
