After months of feeling trap at home we have lost our way to connect with people. We are slowly starting to go out and being able to interact again however shows, theatres and plays are still not open yet. I miss so much this type of interaction. There is nothing like a good show that evokes all your feelings and emotions.
Magic shows are indeed one of my favourite shows. I live getting amazed and intrigued as to how a magic trick is being done. If you love magic and you are missing being part of a show like this, then Dr Will Houston’s The Secret Connection would be perfect for you!
About The Secret Connection
The Secret Connection is a magic show hosted by award-winning magician Dr Will Houstoun. It is a unique interactive online show that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.
The show is delivered via Zoom and it can have an audience of a maximum of 30 screens. They suggest to you to turn down your lights, put your mobile phones away and immerse yourself in an unforgettable experience.
You will enjoy a selection of magic from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. And a box of interactive magical surprises will be sent to you prior to the performance.
Aim Of The Show
The aim of The Secret Connection is to bring back the connection that society has lost during the pandemic. Each household will achieve this enjoying direct magical interaction.
It is a worldwide magic show and so far they have bookings from Australia, New Zealand, United States, Uganda, Czech Republic, Spain and Portugal. How cool is that?
About Dr Will Houstoun
Dr Will Houstoun has a PhD in the history of magical education and is a winner of both the European Magic Championships (2006) and The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the Year 2015.
He holds a Literary Fellowship with the Academy of Magical Arts in Los Angeles, a Research Fellowship with the Victoria and Albert Museum Research Institute, and is an Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Surgery and Cancer, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London.
Combining both of his main interest in the history of magic and performance, he has written and performed around the world his one-man show Dr Houstoun’s Conjuring.
Tickets & Price
One ticket is valid for one device which will be for one household up to 4 people. The tickets are per household and not per person.
A ticket allowed us to invite members of our household to watch the show on our computer. Because the show is interactive, they recommend having one or two people to take part but better no more than four people per screen. If you would like more than four people to watch the show, they recommend you to purchase an additional ticket, this way you can maximise the interactivity of the show. And they will need another screen to watch and participate.
The ticket costs £49 and as I mentioned before it is for one household.
Our Thoughts
We didn’t know what to expect. This is the first time that we have joined a show like this via Zoom. It was something new for us and we were super excited.
The show lasted about 75 minutes and it is interactive all the way through so you are entertained from start to finish. We received a small box with interactive magical surprises prior to the show which helped with the interaction throughout the show.
In order to enjoy the show, you will need a computer or tablet with a camera and a stable internet connection. Also, choose the bigger screen that you have available. We actually connected a laptop to the TV so we had it all on a big screen but because you need your camera and microphone on we had the laptop in front of the TV so we were able to interact. So we had a double screening.
The show has been designed for adults and under 18 years old are welcome as long as they are accompanied by someone over the age of 18. My girls were around and they found it fascinating.
We had a small break of 5 mins where we were able to grab or refill a drink or even go to the toilet. It is always nice to have a little break.
We really enjoyed the show. It was very interesting. The magic tricks that Dr Will Houstoun showed us were fantastic. And I really liked that I was able to try a few tricks using the interactive surprises that were sent to us. We had a moment where he asked us how did we find a particular trick and spoke with him directly. It was fun!
You have to keep your camera and microphone on but I think they muted us most of the time to avoid interference and unmuted the people that were interacting in each section. I thought this way it was more organised.
The Secret Connection is definitely a unique show that can be perfect to do for a private event for work team social, birthday party, family, sports team, etc. Or you can participate in your own household as we did. Either way it is guaranteed fun.
Do you like magic shows? What do you think of The Secret Connection?
*Disclosure: We were given a press ticket in order to review the show. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Interesting idea. I haven’t really embraced the whole “online concert” thing but the fact that this was interactive makes it totally different. #KCACOLS

This is a great idea! Perfect example of a business adapting to the current climate. I love how innovative it is and that just because its via Zoom you haven’t lost the interactive element of magic shows. This is great.

That sounds great! I love magic. I used to drag the kids all the time, now I just go on my own. Did drag the youngest to one in Jan. She did like it. I delight in being ‘amazed’. Such a great feeling!

An unusual approach and interesting idea for the current times. Good to know that it is interactive, too.

This looks like a good idea , for me though I don’t really live being on camera but if it wasn’t focused on me I could imagine doing something like this . Would be great for the kids

I’ve always loved magic but haven’t seen a live show for years. What a great idea for lockdown and to bring a community together in the current climate.
