You are probably here after reading my previous blog post Three Days In Hamburg – Part 1, which was about our first days in Hamburg, courtesy of the Come To Hamburg program. This blog post is about the remainder of our time in Hamburg.
You can watch a video of our 3 day visit to Hamburg below:
DAY TWO
Lunch at Better Burger Company
The Better Burger Company restaurant was located in Mönckebergstraße (Underground) and it was not far from the Speicherstadt which was handy for us. We were given a voucher to try a burger there.
Since we arrived at Hamburg we were looking forward to trying a good hamburger so this was the perfect moment. The place is inside a shopping centre. We ordered 2 big burgers with chips. OMG, these burgers were delicious. So yummy! My burger was quite filling so I didn’t eat it all but managed to eat most of it.
Many items on the menu are handmade. From the freshly made salads to many of the burgers, like the salmon, falafel, black bean, vegetarian, and farmers lamb burger. We were very impressed with these hamburgers! So if you would like to try proper huge and super tasty burgers, this is the place for you!
City Bus Tour with Die Roten Doppeldecker
After our delicious burger we decided to do the sightseeing bus around Hamburg, so we joined Die Roten Doppeldecker during the afternoon.
Every time that we visit a new city, we tend to do this because it is the best way to have an overview of the city. The tour was also in English which was very handy!
You can do this tour Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. You can join the tours at any time and you can hop in and out as many times as you wanted! We didn’t do this as we wanted to see everything from the top of the bus.
We decided to end our tour around the Jungfernstieg area which was very pretty!
A walk around Jungfernstieg
I really liked this area. We walked around and we had a beautiful view of a cool fountain. We decided to find a coffee where we could sit down and enjoy an ice-cream. At the end, we didn’t have one but we enjoyed a cold drink.
We then decided to go back home because we had dinner reservations that evening. The next day was my birthday so we wanted to celebrate ahead as the next day was our last day.
Walking around the hotel area
When we came back to the hotel, we got changed and decided to go around the neighbourhood. It is such a lovely area that I wanted to explore a little bit.
It has a lot of green areas and canals everywhere! I was so surprised by the amount of water surrounding the city! This was a surprise for me!
Dinner at the hotel
After our lovely walk, we went back to the hotel for our dinner. The day was lovely so we decided to eat outside. This area was very nice and romantic too as each table had some light up candles.
We both ordered our dishes as well as something to drink. I got a glass of champagne to celebrate. I was feeling old by that moment that I was getting too old sadly! Not long that day I was going to turn 40! Crazy, right?
DAY THREE
Walk around St Pauli
St Pauli is a very famous area in Hamburg. It is supposed to be very lively and a lot of people go there in the nights to the pubs, nightclubs, restaurants, etc. It is also well known because The Beatles used to play at Indra which is a little club in St Pauli. Nick is a massive fan of The Beatles so we could not stop there to have a look and take some photos.
They also had some metal shapes of The Beatles in the middle of the street which were very cool. We didn’t waste any opportunities and we of course took some photos there too. were
There are lots of little shops and second-hand outlets in Paul-Roosen-Straße. You find hip bars with posh cocktails, burlesque and an honest Astra-beer. And of course, they say that you can buy some love there! 😉 This reminded me to the red zone in Amsterdam a little bit! lol
We visited St Pauli on our own but there are lots of guided tours that will show you the area and will explain you the history, where to go and what to expect.
Miniatur Wunderland
After St Pauli, we decided to go to the Miniatur Wunderland. This was part of the activities suggested and I was dying to go and visit! We took the U-Bahn to Baumwall station. It is very easy to find it.
This place is amazing! It is the largest model railway exhibition in the world! It is the most popular family tourist attraction in Hamburg and the most visited permanent exhibit in Northern Germany.
You can see trains running through recreations of Hamburg and the coast, Austria, the Grand Canyon and Scandinavia. Its latest addition was the section of Italy in 2016 and it has much more plans for the future.
I thought the recreation of the trains going around during the night was stunning! I couldn’t believe how perfect it was. Same feeling with the airport recreation! Every single detail was spot on! This is for sure a place for all ages. It is a unique experience and a must visit if you are in Hamburg. You should definitely allow yourself time to go around because it is huge! I am sure my girls would have enjoyed going around the sections of this wonderful museum!
Lunch at Flamm’
After our lovely time at the Miniatur Museum, we went to have some lunch! We were starving! We went to Flamm’Hus which was so close to the museum, so it was perfect! They had the most amazing flamms (like very thin crusted pizza’s). They were delicious! As I mentioned, it is very well located in the Speicherstadt district of Hamburg (in the port area), with a lovely view of the bridges and former warehouses.
I hadn’t tried flamms before so didn’t know what to expect! After trying them I am now a fan! Wow, they are yummy! One of the owners was there and really looked after us! We even got a dessert flamm with apple and cinnamon that was amazing! We really loved this place. If you are visiting Hamburg, try to visit Flamm’Hus. You will love it too!
Back to the hotel and trip to the airport
After our lovely lunch, we went back to the hotel to organise our things. This was our last day so despite having a late flight we needed to check out earlier than that. We then went for a little walk around the hotel and we found a lovely ice cream place and we had the most amazing ice cream ever! It was so yummy. It was the perfect ending to our fantastic trip to Hamburg. After this, we headed back to the hotel and then to the airport. We used the bus this time and it was so quick and easy! It is very close to the hotel.
We LOVED Hamburg! We have not been in Germany before so Hamburg was a lovely taste of it! We really like this city. The had more bridges than in Venice! It has so much to offer. There is a lot of things to do. You can visit there just as a couple or with your family. Next time will be nice to visit with the girls! I loved wondering around. The have lots of museums to visit which so much history to learn. And the best of all was their architecture! It was stunning! Will I recommend you to visit? Yes, please do! You will love it!
