Christmas is upon us and it seems to be getting colder and colder outside, so what better than to snuggle up in front of the TV with your loved ones to watch some great Christmas movies. With services like Sky, Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ amongst others, there is so much to choose from over the Christmas period, and the classics are usually the best. I decided to have a look and come up with my 5 Classic Christmas Movie Picks. It can be quite easy to find a movie via the various streaming services available. Anyway, I hope you like them.
I haven’t listed these in any particular order – they are just 5 I have selected from what’s showing.
1. The Grinch (2000) – PG
Ron Howard’s colourful adaptation of Dr Seuss’s cheery tale stars Jim Carrey as the grumpy grouch who aims to steal Christmas from the good folk of Whoville.
This is a fun, entertaining Christmas movie classic which the kids will love, all thanks to Jim Carrey’s fantastic performance as The Grinch.
2. The Santa Clause (1994) – U
Divorced dad Tim Allen finds himself anointed the next Santa. Disney’s jolly seasonal yarn packs a stocking full full of ho-ho-hos… and some pretty snazzy sweaters.
This as another (fairly) modern classic that kids will enjoy. There is lots of fun along the way but also some really touching moments between Scott (Tim Allen) and his son Charlie (Eric Lloyd).
3. The Night Before (2015) – 15
Raucous festive lark with Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie as buddies determined to hit a cool Xmas ball. But age is catching up with them…
I haven’t seen this before but I’m a fan of Seth Rogen and find his movies really funny, so i’m definitely looking to watching this and (hopefully) having a laugh or too!
4. The Holiday (2006) – 12
Londoner Kate Winslet and LA girl Cameron Diaz swap homes for Christmas – mainly to avoid men. Alas, Jack Black & Jude Law complicate matters. Cute romance.
I love a good chic flick so this is Christmas heaven for me, LOL! Yes the whole swapping homes plot is a bit contrived, but it’s a romcom and it’s Christmas, so who’s taking it that seriously anyway 🙂
5. Scrooged (1988) – PG
Bill Murray is perfect as the mean-spirited TV boss who gets an eye-watering lesson from three ghosts. Big laughs in this sharp update of A Christmas Carol.
This is another fun Christmas movie which is a modern (okay 1980’s) take on Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”. Bill Murray is great as the TV boss who is taught the error of his ways by the 3 Christmas Ghosts.
You can visit sites like JustWatch to find our where you can watch or download a movie, so you don’t need to worry about missing your favourite Christmas movie.
What do you think of my Christmas movie picks? Have you seen any of them? Are there any other movies that you are looking forward to seeing over Christmas? Please leave a comment below as I would love to read what you think.
Thanks for stopping by,
Love you all ❤️
