If you’re looking for a great value tablet for the kids this summer then look no further than the Amazon Fire 7. It allows access to a great variety of apps via the Amazon Appstore for family entertainment, games and education that rival any other tablet, yet the device costs just £49.99! It’s perfect for keeping the kids occupied during the holidays or when travelling, helping with homework and educational games. Amazon kindly provided the latest version of the Amazon Fire 7 (June 2017) for us to try out. We actually already had one of the older models, but it’s great because it means my girls can now have one each!
This latest version of the Amazon Fire 7 is an improved version of Amazon’s bestselling 7″ tablet, because it is now thinner, lighter and most importantly (if you’re planning on handing it over to a child) more durable. What’s the point in a tablet if you feel you can’t take it anywhere? What’s more, the Fire 7 also now incorporates Amazon’s popular voice assistant, Alexa. My 7 year old daughter Bella loves asking Alexa how to spell words she is not sure about, well that and asking to hear the latest Justin Bieber song, LOL!
The Amazon Fire 7 we received came in ‘punch’ red (several different colours are available: Black, Marine Blue, Punch Red and Canary Yellow) and has 8gb of storage, although this is expandable up to 256gb. See Amazon details below:
The Amazon Appstore available on Fire Tablets offers a wide range of apps and games to suit everyone, covering entertainment to education. In this post, I am going to share 3 great apps from different categories that we have installed on our new device. These are as follows:
1. Peppa Pig: Happy Mrs Chicken (Kids Games / Price: £1.99)
The premise of this game is simple: Peppa and George are playing Happy Mrs Chicken and they want you to join them! Fans of the Peppa Pig TV show will love this app, which encourages young children to explore the wonderful world of Peppa through lots of fun filled games, featuring much-loved characters, music and sound effects.
2. Phonics Island (Educational / Price: Free)
I wanted to pick an educational app for the next choice as there are many available and its a great way for kids to learn while having fun. This app is great for preparing your kids for reading success. Its simple, yet modifiable, child-friendly interface offers children an engaging way to master the essential skill of phonetic letter sounds. An educational adventure application your children will love! It includes the following features:
- Tracing: Learn to write all uppercase and lowercase letters!
- Balloon Pop Game challenges kids to practice identifying letters that match the sounds called.
- The possibility to choose uppercase or lowercase letters.
- Earn stickers as you progress.
3. Netflix (Family / Price: Free)
We all love Netflix in our family as there is always something to watch and we all have our favourite. With the Netflix app you can instantly watch as many TV episodes & films as you want, as often as you want, anytime you want. Best of all you can download some shows which can be watched offline when there is no Wifi. This is perfect for the kids when we are travelling or out and about. My girls, particularly Sienna, loves Peppa Pig and Ruby & Max.
Our Thoughts
We think the Amazon Fire 7 is a great device, but it’s the wide ranging choice of apps that are available in the Amazon Appstore are what really makes it stand out. The app store offers a huge amount of titles covering a wide range of categories. There is something for everyone. Combine this with the fact that the device is below £50, it’s an unbelievable value.
Do you or your children use tablets? What do you think about the Kindle Fire 7? What do you think about the Amazon Appstore? Can you recommend any greats apps for kids? Please let me know in the comments below.
Thanks for stopping by,
Love you all ❤️

We love this tablet! It’s really easy to use, my 2 year old can navigate it better than me! It’s been a life saver on long car journeys and the apps are fun but educational too. I like how you can download books for your kids as well as apps and shows.
If you get the shockproof cover, it’s pretty much indestructible as well which is a massive plus IMO!

We haven’t had an Amazon tablet before as we have ipads (trying to keep the kids off them is the problem!) but this device looks great and is so reasonable. I was surprised by the price. #KCACOLS

My boy just got his tablet when he was 10 and love the app store and we live on Netflix! I couldn’t live with out it. The Kindle Fire is brilliant for kids! #KCACOLS

Definitely massively cheaper than an iPad! Our kids have access to our old iPads but the one my youngest uses barely works anymore and the screen is all cracked, it is twice as old as here mind. When it finally gives up the ghost I’d consider one of these. I love that it comes in so many bright colours too x

Great price, we have a Samsung tablet which I love as it’s small and light enough to throw in your bag although it can no longer be classed as mine but as my little mans! x #KCACOLS

We had the old version and we loved it! But I lost it! I love the colour of this one! Your girls are growing up too fast! #KCACOLS

How did you lose it? You must have been so annoyed about it! 🙁 Tell me about it! They are too big! Not sure when that happened! X

Sounds great. We have George our old iPad and he used that. We both know where we are with apple and get confused when presented with anything else. I can totally recommend the Hopster app. Subscription is £3.99 or free if you don’t want everything unlocked. The CBeebies playtime app is great too.
