Hans C Andersen’s Fairy Tales Book Review

amomentwithfranca · 27 October 2015 · 84 Comments

I was so fortunate recently to be approached by Katie from Miles Kelly who are an independent children’s book publishers based in the village of Thaxted, Essex, UK. The company’s ethos is to create “Children’s books to inspire and share” with the aim of reaching as many children as possible, spreading the joy of reading. The in-house team of editors and designers work with reputable international authors and illustrators to create carefully planned and beautifully designed books for kids aged 3–12 years old.

Katie was so kind to let me choose one book from their website. It was so difficult as all of them were not just very interesting and educative but beautifully presented too. After a long search, Bella (my 5 year old daughter) finally chose “the most beautiful book ever” (these are Bella’s words!). The book Bella chose was Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales. This book is part of their fiction section. As soon as we told Katie our choice, she sent us the book straight away. It was a good and fast delivery service. They have free standard UK delivery on every order which takes 3–7 working days.

When we received the book I couldn’t believe how beautiful the front cover was. The illustration was gorgeous. The mermaid was so well designed. The cover  was illustrated by Laurence Cleyet-Merle. The book has 512 pages where the kids can explore 50 captivating tales of mermaids, princes and magical animals, with beautiful illustrations that bring a wealth of delightful and quirky characters to life.

The book is divided into five sections, each with ten of the best fantastical fairy stories around, including much-loved favourites about transformations, journeys of discovery and extraordinary events. The age suggested is from 6 years. Bella is only 5 but she was happy with this book since the moment we received it. The price of the book is £14.99 but it is on discount at the moment for £11.24. It is a great price for what you are getting: 500 pages with 50 captivating stories!! What else you can ask for?

Every night at bedtime Bella has asked to be read one story from the book. This book is ideal for a bedtime story. Nick and I have taken turn reading the book with Bella. We have read her one or two stories depending on the lengh of the story. After that she has fallen asleep happily dreaming with thought of the fairy tales! This book has really beautiful illustrations which I thought was very important to get Bella’s attention.

We recently visited Bella’s grandparents to drop her there as she was going to stay with them during the half term holiday. She didn’t want to leave the book at home so we had to bring it with her so Grandad could read her the stories. So now she is happy that Grandad will be able to read her one or two stories from the book every night. Before we left to go back to London, I saw Bella and her grandad having a special moment. He was reading Bella one of the stories. It was so cute to watch so I decided to take some photos of that moment!

My girls love Fairytales and stories to do with bedtime/night time. At the moment I am reading them my old Ladybird Read It Yourself books – each one is a traditional fairytale from The Gingerbread Man to The Little Red Hen!
