I am so excited to be part of the Hasbro Toy Tribe and from now on I will be able to review their new range of toys with my girls. I don’t know who is more excited, Bella or me, LOL. In this post we are reviewing the Yo-Kai Watch.
When the parcel arrived we were all very excited to open it. Bella was really looking forward to testing them all straight away. The first toy that she opened was Yo-Kai Watch. It definitely caught her attention as it is a big watch. We have never seen or heard of this series before so we were unfamiliar with it but Bella didn’t care about that at all. She was really keen to discover all the functions by herself. One thing that was important to point out is that this watch does not give the time.
After receiving this watch I was extremely curious to find out more about it. The animated TV series from which it comes, was created in Japan. It was received extremely well by kids and adults due to its style and imagination that had a more supernatural and unique take on the Pokemon series.
So what is the story about: it is about a young boy named Keita Amano who happens upon a bizarre capsule machine one day while playing in the woods searching for bugs. He opens one of the capsules, expecting a toy inside, and instead meets a yokai (spirit) named Whisper. Whisper gifts Keita with a special item known as the Yokai Watch, which effectively allows him to see spirits and communicate with them. It so happens that there are tons of different yokai around Keita in the world, and with Whisper and his cat yokai Jibanyan, Keita sets off to meet several different kinds of yokai with whom he can befriend or even battle
The watch comes with 2 exclusive medals. With the watch and medals, your kids can imagine summoning Yo-kai characters. If they slide the Yo-kai medal into the watch, it can recognize over 100 different Yo-kai medals (each sold separately) helping them discover mischievous Yo-kai in the world around them. Featuring authentic Yo-kai summoning sound effects, tribal music and phrases from season 1, your kids can experience the world of Yo-kai for yourself as they pretend to summon Yo-kai characters with each medal they collect.
They can insert a medal into the watch to hear the sound from the video game series. It will then call out the name of the Yo-kai featured on the medal plus other sound effects. For more interactive play, they can download the Yo-kai Land App to learn about each of the 200 Yo-kai and their 8 different tribes. You can even play 3 different virtual arcade games with your favourite Yo-kai. You can also take a picture in the photo booth with your favourite Yo-kai or scan your medal and watch your Yo-kai come to life on your smart device in the befriend zone. Scan the back of your medals to unlock cool features of your Yo-kai and virtually register them. This is all super fun!
We had a little bit of a play with the app and managed to see the Yo-kai come to life, but a lot of the other options we still need to explore. It is also possible to collect the medals and store them in the Yo-kai Medallium Collection Book. This watch is available at most major retailers nationwide.
What do you think of the Yo-kai watch? Would you let your kids try it too? Do you think the medals are a good idea? Leave me a comment below as I would love to read what you think.
*Disclosure: I received this toy as being part of Hasbro’s Toy Tribe in exchange for a blog post. However all the opinions and thoughts are my own.
Thanks for stopping by,
Love you all ❤️
