I have visited Vienna several times. It’s a beautiful city and every time I go, I like it even more! My eldest sister lives there so this has, of course, influenced my trips there. On each visit, we have discovered something new. I have travelled there both alone and with the family, there are so many things to do in Vienna, so either way, there has always been something interesting to do.
My latest trip to Vienna was just recently when I travelled with Nick. The main reason for our trip was because my sister was getting married, so what better excuse for another trip than a special occasion like this? We travelled without the girls on this occasion so this gave us a little more freedom to enjoy ourselves.
We left London from Stanstead airport, arriving in Vienna very late on Thursday night. Upon arrival, we collected our suitcases and took an Uber to my sister’s house. We are lucky that she has a spare room for us to stay in but if you need it there are also rental apartments and chalets available in Vienna. For example, this luxury apartment in the fashionable and central 8th District of Vienna, Josefstadt with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom looks fantastic!
The following day we got ready for the civil wedding at the Standesamt in the 18th district. The day was gorgeous. It was about 28C. The sun was shining and the sky was blue. It was amazing to have such beautiful weather for a special day like this. The main room at the Standesamt was very beautiful and the ceremony was lovely!
After the ceremony, we went to take some photos in a beautiful garden close to Aumann Cafe at the Aumannplatz where we had lunch and celebrated together. This restaurant was perfect for the occasion.
We stayed until about 7 pm! It was an extended celebration. The food was lovely and of course the company. We then went back to my sister’s house to have a little rest and change. It was my sister’s birthday the next day so we wanted to celebrate it that night.
After refreshing ourselves and dressing up to go partying that night, we headed to Albertina Passage Dinner Club which is right next to the Royal Opera House. The decor of this club is incomparable. Upon entering, you no longer feel like you’re in Vienna. Instead, it could easily be a nightspot in New York or Tokyo. The combination of high-class kitchen, the art of construction and American bar culture conveys a sense of international flair. Expect style, elegance, exclusivity and a Viennese mixture of theatre and stage. It was a super cool place!
With my dear sister!
It was an 80s party night in the club. I wasn’t sure about this as I would have preferred to party with more current music but it turned out to be super fun. We had some drinks and danced too. It was really nice to be able to go out without worrying about the girls. We missed them a lot, but we also enjoyed our time there. I think it was about 1:3o am when we left. We were very tired having had a long day (and having arrived late the previous evening) so this was enough for us!
The weather on the next day was completely the opposite. It was dark, wet and windy! It actually felt cold too. This didn’t stop us from having a walk around Vienna. We went for a late breakfast at Salonplafond at MAK.
This place is elegant and simple, with the interior apparently inspired by traditional Viennese restaurants, which can be seen in the furniture and fabrics. The decor really stood out for me. The dishes are uncomplicated, providing ‘simple, ingredient-focused food. We really liked it.
I had the most amazing Eggs Benedict ever! It was so tasty! I can highly recommend you to try them should you visit. You won’t regret it!
After eating we walked around the city centre. It was the longest walk ever. I think we walked for almost 2 hours! I was exhausted afterwards but it was perfect!
Following our walk, we returned to my sister’s apartment because apart from being tired we needed to pack as we were leaving very early for Hamburg the following day.
This was a special trip to Vienna. We did different things but we really enjoyed it. It was more about having some family time than doing tourism but we managed to fit in a little bit too which was perfect.
Have you been to Vienna? What did you like the most? Did you go to the Opera?

Oh I would love to go to Vienna it is certainly on my list. To be able to go to some of those bars would definitely require a trip without the kids, so perhaps won’t be going any time soon. Although I would like to take them too. It looks really beautiful and a wonderful place to visit. I am glad you had such a lovely time. #KCACOLS

Vienna is absolutely on my wish list of cities in Europe that I want to visit as everyone says it’s so beautiful and it obviously is from your photos. Lovely pic of you and your sister together. It’s so important to have the odd weekend away on your own too, sans enfants, just to have some time to yourselves. #KCACOLS
