Not long ago, we were invited to an Amazon event where they announced the UK launch of Amazon Handmade, a new service where you can find lots of up and coming businesses which produce their products by hand. It was a lovely night that Nick and I enjoyed as we managed to go out without the girls! The highlight of the night was meeting Andy Buck, the founder of My Magic Name which is a personalised children’s story book. He is the Founder, Creator, Designer and Author of this book. He has a lovely team of 4. We also met another member of his team, Marie who is an illustrator who specialises in magical illustrations for children of all ages.
We had a nice chat, with them explaining to us about the book and the story behind it. They wanted to encourage children to put down their iPads and have more wonderful memories of getting lost in a book. They decided to write a book that would help children rediscover the joys of reading and transport them into the story; because they would become the book’s hero. This is how the My Magic Name book was born.
We were interested in this book and thought it would be a great idea to review it with our daughters.
This book is very special because every personalised book is entirely unique as each illustration and rhyming story is based on the letters of the child’s name. I thought this was a really nice touch. We were able to notice this as Andy, kindly personalised 2 books with the names of my daughters. So now each of them has a book with their name which means that their stories were different. The main theme is the same but because their names have different letters the story changed depending on this.
When you order this book, you only need to give 5 important details:
1) Child’s first name
2) Child’s gender
3) Child’s road / street name (optional)
4) Child’s House Number (optional)
5) Personal Message
With these details, Andy was able to personalise the book. He does this job himself which makes the book even more unique. This is what I liked the most about this book and what appealed to me since the start, that it is handmade.
The service is pretty good and the books didn’t take long to arrive. As soon as my girls saw the books they were very excited because they were able to recognise their names. It was really nice to have one book for each and it was cool to see them enjoying their books.
I read the story with both of them in separate moments. They both really liked their books. The story is really interesting and comes with a really nice and positive message.
This is a lovely, high quality book. Each page is eye catching even to an adult. The name spelling all the way through is a lovely way for your child to learn and see how her name is spelled.
The book is not short at all. It has 42+ pages full of storytelling. The delightful story line cleverly uses each letter of the child’s name to help colourful characters in the nearby circus. A wizard has made the little girl’s alphabet magical so each letter used has special powers. At the end of the book, the little girl discovers that each magic letter used to help the friendly animals actually spells out your child’s name.
The illustrations are beautiful and eye catching, especially for my girls. It has a premium quality thick paper and a durable and luxury hardback cover. It is a lovely handmade book.
The book is perfect as a special gift for birthdays or for a bedtime treat. It is suitable for children aged 2 to 8 years old. If you’re looking for a present for a child that is unique and interesting, this is the perfect book. Also now that we are approaching Christmas it could be a super nice Christmas gift.
The book retails at £19.95 which is a fantastic price for a handmade product. You can find more about My Magic Name by visiting their website or on their Twitter or Facebook.

Seems a lovely gift. A delight for the child and family. Small Businesses I believe need more support and encouragement from Government, Banks etc. As it is frequently reported that it is difficult starting a Business, it takes time to make a profit etc. Yet there seems to be little in the way of Employment Opportunities, Economic DownTurn,, etc’ etc. Just how are individuals, families etc meant to earn /gain an income in order to survive??

I love personalized books i think they are very special. I remember when I was little and my dad gave me a personalized book with my name but it also included my cousins to make it more magical, i still have the book now and i will always keep it. Love the fact it is handmade makes it more magical because of the love and dedication that went into making the book, and i do support small businesses I believe it is very important to do so.
