SKYE Footwear Review

amomentwithfranca · 15 June 2017 · 20 Comments

I love shoes, so as you can imagine I love buying shoes too. The only problem I have is that I have very fussy feet. They are not easy to please! I guess I got this from my mother as she has this problem too. I have often bought very pretty shoes and stylish shoes but after a few hours of wearing them I have to take them off straight away. It takes a lot of searching for me to be able to find a shoe that I am happy with but when I do find shoes that I like and also feel comfortable in, I stick with them for a long time because I know I will be able to wear them for a long time. This is exactly the case with SKYE Footwear: they deliver a good-looking shoe that is also smart for the feet. Stylish but at the same time, very comfortable!

FIRST APPROACH

Not long ago, I was contacted by the owner of a new footwear brand, SKYE Footwear, based in Vancouver, Canada. We (both me and the hubby) were invited to review their new shoes. My initial reaction was to browse through the SKYE Footwear website to find out more about them. The shoes looked very modern and stylish and I was really impressed with their designs. At this point they only had prototype shoes and were still crowdfunding on Indiegogo and Kickstarter. He offered to send a pair of shoes each for us to review as soon as their new batch of shoes were ready.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

SKYE Footwear is a start-up footwear brand from Vancouver (British Columbia), Canada that were created in March 2015. In October 2016, they launched their first Indiegogo campaign and promised consumers shoes from their first production batch in the spring of 2017.

THE MODELS

A few months later, after Gary’s first approach, he came back and told me that they made it and that their fist batch of shoes was ready. He asked us to choose a style from their range.

1. The Lons – $99.00 USD – Loafer-sneaker, modern mariner

The Lons is a marine classic for modern urbanites. Cool and casual. Great for boardwalks, top decks, and beach indulgence. Pairs perfectly with your closet-country-club get-up, your yacht ensemble, or easily with high-ankle denim or dungarees.

2. The Powll – $126.00 USD – Mod desert boot, nighttime chukka.

The Powll is a light weight heavyweight, a quiet showpiece, perfect for a subtle statement. Street walking, coffee shopping, diner hopping, or shop talking. Pairs well with stingy or generous pants, dressed up or down, and definitely when looking sharp.

3. The Rbutus – $129.00 USD – Ultra-soft runner-style walking shoe

The Rbutus is great for the runner that sometimes has to walk, too. The urban-outdoors are calling. Great for hikes, bikes, and getting likes. Pairs well with anything showing a little ankle; good shorts, wild tights, good denim, and even rolled up slacks.

Each model will come in 5 different colour options. At the moment they are only offering the basic colours.

OUR CHOICES

Nick chose The Powll in beige and red, while I chose The Lons in black. We already knew they looked great but would they also be comfortable to wear?

When they arrived, I was very impressed with their packaging/presentation. They have put so much attention to detail. Every single detail has a purpose and a meaning. As soon as I saw the shoes inside the boxes, I was in love with them. They were both so different to each other but both were unique and special. The design is just amazing!

REASONS THAT MAKES SKYE STANDOUT

Gary mentioned 3 reasons why their footwear was different from brands currently on the market:

1. Innovative gear

With a unique built-in deep gel insole, it was developed for true comfort for people with busy, active lifestyles.

2. Sleek design

Revolutionising footwear and making sure it’s a totally different experience. Dress it up or down, it’s laceless,   lightweight and form-fitting

3. Made for the world

They are committed to environmentally-conscious and minimal use manufacturing and production. Many parts of the shoes are either biodegradable or recyclable.

MAIN FEATURES

1. SKYE Impact + Rebound Insole

SKYE Impact is a built-in deep gel heel cup for impact absorption in the heel strike zone, for happy ankles. SKYE Rebound is engineered with a springy gel to keep a natural bounce in your step, for happy walking.

The mid-arch is crafted for smart responsive anatomical support, making for stress-free feet and euphoric legs. And there’s an anti-stink layer to prevent the growth of odour‑causing bacteria.

2. The Loop-Lok

This means a snug laceless fit around your foot, inspired by West Coast watersports like stand-up paddleboarding. The bungee cables loop and gently lock across the upper mid-foot, like a good hug. With this shoes, you will never need to worry about tieing a knot anymore which is, of course, very convenient.

3. 4-way Stretch Upper

The material mix for the shape-fit upper gives true 4-way stretch for a premium form-fit feeling. The breezy breathable fabric feels like air to the toes, while the microfiber structure retains strength and support in its grip.

The feeling when wearing this shoes is like if you are barely wearing anything. Your feet still think they’re naked.

4. Lightweight

They are light like feathers. It is so practical when you are travelling as they hardly add any weight to your luggage which is great when you are travelling with a limited weight allowance.

TESTING THE TRAINERS

So, the moment of truth: we were ready to test them to see if they were comfortable. We were both so looking forward to trying them. When Nick first tried them, he said he was very comfortable with the shoes and that he liked them a lot. He thought they had a clever design, great shape and they were also good looking shoes.

When I tried mine for the first time, I had a different experience. I felt comfortable only with my left shoe but the right shoe was very tight and a little bit painful. I was confused and didn’t know what to do because the one that fitted well was fantastic and I was loving it. So I decided to contact SKYE Footwear to asked their advice, as this didn’t seem right. I thought I perhaps might need a half size up.

Gary, the SKYE Footwear owner, replied straight away and explained that if the shoe size is correct, the tightness is likely to be coming from the mid-foot section where the elastic bands are. He suggested pulling the elastic bands first to loosen the Loop-Lok a little. He also mentioned that the shoe does need time to break in to loosen them a bit and then they will become much more comfortable.

So I did exactly what he suggested: pulled the elastic bands and the shoe started to feel much more comfortable. After a couple of days wearing them, I found both left and right shoes were completely comfortable on my feet. I think the shoe actually adapts to your foot’s shape, so the more you wear them the better they are. Three days later and they were my favourite shoes to wear! I found them perfect for the nursery run and for my daily routine in general. I was super comfortable in them but at the same time I felt trendy as I was wearing stylish trainers.

Nick and I have been testing these shoes for a few weeks now. We even took them on our trip to Vienna and Hamburg. It was crucial that these shoes were comfy in those environments as we were going to be walking for quite a number of hours and in different weather conditions. I can happily report that they were perfect.

OUR FINAL THOUGHTS

We are very impressed with these shoes. As I said before, I have fussy feet so it is not easy to find shoes that look good and are comfortable. SKYE Footwear ticks all the boxes and are currently my favourite shoes. There are my cool new trainers for the summer! I think I am already making a difference because people have complimented me on my shoes already which is a fantastic sign.

So watch out for this brand because I think they could be the next big thing. There may well be a lot of people wearing SKYE shoes soon. That is my prediction and I feel very excited to be one of the first ones to try them out! Yee! If you would like to find out more about them and where you can get a pair of SKYE footwear shoes for yourself, you can check them out HERE or on FACEBOOK, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM

Have you heard of SKYE Footwear before? What do you think of this brand? Do you like the styles? What feature do you like the most?

*Disclosure: We received SKYE Footwear shoes to test at home for the purpose of this review. However, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

These look and sound fab. They remind me slightly of Sketchers. It’s great to hear they are earth conscious too.
