Smartick – A Fantastic Math Programme For Kids & 25% Discount Code

amomentwithfranca · 8 May 2019 · 22 Comments

Do you worry about how to help your child at home with their homework or if they are struggling in a certain class? I do and I really want my girls to have as much support with their education as possible. Sometimes though, paying for tutors, or even finding them, isn’t an option. This is where online-based resources become particularly useful. Programmes like Smartick,  for example, which I have been trialling with both Bella and Sienna recently.

What Is Smartick And How Can It Help?

Smartick is an online Artificial Intelligence (AI) based math programme for children from the ages of 4 to 14. Smartick doesn’t follow the national curriculum or the Key Stage system. By having your child log in for 15 minutes per day, the algorithm decides on the questions based on how well your child did in their last session.

Supported by the European Union, the artificial intelligence developed by Smartick adapts to your child’s learning pace. Having the confidence to know they can do math is always part of the issue so Smartick allows your child to learn new skills at their pace based on their level and not that of their peers. By keeping daily sessions short and fun, your child can be engaged and learning without getting bored or frustrated because each session is tailored to their abilities.

Smartick App

Before starting, each child has a 1-3 day assessment to see where they are so the AI programme can adapt to their abilities to help them get the most of their sessions.

Trying Smartick With Bella And Sienna

After an initial 2 week trial for the girls I can say I am very impressed with this programme. I wasn’t expecting my girls to actually want to do their 15 mins exercises every day!

Sienna & Bella happy doing their 15 mins exercises

It took longer for Bella than Sienna to be assessed and this is because the assessment for Sienna was her first session which served as the initial level assessment. It was shorter than Bella’s because Sienna is 4 years old, the age at which the Smartick curriculum starts. There was significantly less content to test her on, as it is assumed students her age don’t have an extensive background in maths, whereas Bella was tested on Grade 1 to 3 content, so there was considerably more content to be tested on for Bella.

Motivational Announcement when they did well after their 15 mins exercise

I like that they have taken into account special needs to add to a child’s profile. I thought it was great that we were able to add dyslexia and dyscalculia for Bella. This makes sure she gets the correct timings as well as being able to use more breaks during her sessions. Bella took longer to adapt to the programme but I think it was because we only added later that she had both dyslexia and dyscalculia. Since then, she has had more time to answer the questions as well as being able to take breaks which have helped her a lot.

Results Area

I received a call from Carmela, my designated Smarticks contact and we went through all the features that this programme has to offer. I was really impressed. It was lovely to have such personalised customer services – which is standard. She was very lovely and explained to me everything I need to know as well as giving me some tips.

The Virtual World

The virtual world is great. This is where they can go after finishing their 15 mins of exercise to have some fun. So here they can find a tree house where the smart club is located. They can find new friends as well as receive requests to have new friends. They also show the “star of the week”.

Tree House

Each student has their own room within a house. This is where they keep their diplomas and items they have bought with their stars. You can also click here for new diplomas which will take them to a new window where will show how far they are to get a new diploma.

Sienna so happy showing the shop. She loves to buy lots of things there!

In this part, there is also a shop where they can purchase items after receiving stars for their effort and completing their 15 minute exercises. This is one of the areas that my girls love the most. They have bought so many things with their stars. The most popular ones are pets.

You can enter a classroom area too. This is where they can check what exercises they have done so far as well as watching tutorials too. There is also a gym where they can compete with other kids in real time. The information about the other kids is confidential. Nothing gets shared apart from their username. Sienna can’t do this yet as she is too little. But Bella has done several competitions so far and she loves it.

And finally, there is also a game section where they can play different games covering different areas such as memory, reasoning and attention. This is very important because the more games they do, the more practice they get in certain areas.

The Parent Page

You can also check the progress of your kids via the parent page so you can revise their exercises. Every time they complete an exercise you receive an email to let you know where they are up to and how they are getting on. Also, you can listen to tutorials and practice exercises so you understand what exercises your kids are doing.

Our Thoughts On Using Smartick With Bella And Sienna

I am very happy with the programme. The customer services are outstanding and the virtual world is a lot of fun. I feel my girls are progressing a lot with their maths and I am really excited to see how much it has helped them now that they are back to school. I love that we receive thorough feedback on how they are doing in the programme too. And they have a Customer Support and Pedagogical team that you can contact whenever you need.

Smartick is not cheap (check prices HERE) but it compares to other methods such as Kumon or to the idea of having a tutor which is more expensive. The programme does go to age 14. It starts to incorporate coding, verbal/NV reasoning and logic problems as you move further along. So, if your child is struggling with maths at school this is a really good resource to help them gain the confidence they need to help them progress more so I can highly recommend them.

They have a 15-day trial, so if you like it after the trial you can use the code Franca25 which will give you a 25% discount.

Do your kids struggle at Maths or perhaps they need more motivation to improve their knowledge? Do you also use other resources to help your kids to improve in Maths?

*Disclosure: We were given a free subscription for each of my girls by Smartick to try their programme for the purpose of this review. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

Franca  💋

I like that it learns your child’s pace and works within that. I have a math game called Prodigy set up on the PC that my daughter spends a lot of time on. Nice to find a way to make math fun #KCACOLS

This sounds great. I have used some pre-school apps with my son that are based on his own learning pace with short exercises each day for a reward and they have worked really well. I am also impressed that this app allows you to highlight any additional learning needs. I will have to show this to my Math’s Teacher husband! #KCACOLS

This sounds like a fun Math app to try. I’ve had the pleasure of trying out many different Math programs through the years. I believe this one would give many of them a run for their money. I like how it gives the kids 15 minutes worth of work to do a day. So, it’s a nice addition to whatever they are working on without becoming overwhelming.
