As the seasons begin to shift and the gloomy winter months are phased out by the wonderful colours of spring, I can feel my mood starting to lift and energy increase. During the English winter, I just want to hibernate in big woollen jumpers and stay indoors as much as possible (when I’m not travelling!). In the warmer months, however, I’m a different person. I love floating around London in casual summer dresses and sandals, taking in the wonderful sights that the capital has to offer.
As much as I love to shop, it’s a rare treat that I hit the high street. I usually rely instead on the internet for the majority of my purchases. I like to match my summer outfits with a lovely pair of sunglasses to look more fashionable so I have found SmartBuyGlasses a great online resource for this. I got some lovely Max Mara sunglasses with blue lenses and a tortoise frame that I absolutely love at the moment. They also have fantastic designer glasses.
I also love a bargain and on top of my usual online haunts, I’ve recently discovered the fashion-forward holiday collection at Sainsbury’s while doing our weekly shop. With a few trips planned already this year, I’m really excited to have found lots of fashionable pieces that won’t break the bank.
To get me in the mood for the coming months I decided to put together a few casual and stylish outfit ideas that would be perfect for one of my summer garden gatherings. After all, there’s no harm in a little window shopping right?
Maxi Dress
Maxi Dress – Tu at Sainsbury’s
The maxi dress is a summer wardrobe staple. Easy to wear and effortlessly on trend, these wonder-dresses are comfortable and practical too – a bonus when you’re running around after the kids. I’ve seen plenty of designs online that suit all shapes and sizes, with designs varying from eye-catching Aztec prints to floaty, floral numbers.
Add some shine to your outfit with a pair of sparkly sandals and a little glamour with a few coats of nail polish. This summer classic can be dressed up or down as much as you like with jewellery, waist-cinching belts, little jackets and oversized floppy hats.
Bright like the sun
Ladies looking for vibrant splashes of colour won’t have to look too far this season, as bright colours dominated the catwalks and saturated pink remained a firm favourite at Paris Fashion Week. From fuschia shoes to canary blouses, these bright fabrics will keep the sun shining even if the unpredictable British summer takes a turn.
This stylish trend is perfect for warm evenings spent socialising in the garden and can be as subtle or full on as you like. If you find all that colour a little intimidating, you can make some wonderful combinations with
neutral pieces in camel, light grey, black and white. For a stronger look opt for a statement dress in a shade that works with your skin tone and pair with your favourite summer sandals.
Pretty Pleats
Skirt – Tu at Sainsbury’s
Pleated skirts are fantastic as they can be dressed up or down depending on the tone of the get-together. Pair with glitzy sandals and a silk cami for a more glamorous look or a simple tee and pair of casual flats or trainers should you be kicking a ball around with the little ones. From shimmering metallic to retro-inspired flower prints, these versatile skirts are another summer staple.
What’s your go-to summer outfit? How do you manage to feel comfortable yet stylish? What’s your favourite summer staple? I would love to hear your fashion tips!
