Nestled in the charming village of Modbury, Moorvista is an architect-designed newbuild holiday home that effortlessly combines contemporary style with the rustic charm of miles upon miles of the stunning local scenery. Indeed, the house boasts spellbinding views to Dartmoor and rests within just four miles of five excellent beaches – all of which are ideal for relaxed walks or fun days out for the whole family! It is also within easy reach of both Salcombe and Plymouth, which makes Moorvista the perfect location for an unforgettable holiday.
The UK’s Best Luxury Properties Needn’t Be Hidden Gems
So, what’s the big secret?
Unlike further-flung holiday destinations around the globe that also offer luxury accommodation, unspoilt landscapes and authentic local eateries, Moorvista is comparatively right on the doorstep of UK holidaymakers. Gone are the days where soaking up the sun on a golden beach or talking a stroll to authentic local restaurants means jetting off on a long-haul flight to packed holiday resorts and there has been a real surge in the popularity of domestic holidays in recent years.
This is a trend that has been noticed by organisations such as Visit England and even banks, who note that increasing numbers of travellers are opting to holiday within the UK rather than abroad. With the wealth of unique holiday cottages available within the UK, there has never been a better time to take advantage of the great English ‘staycation’. The big secret that more and more holidaymakers are discovering is that may not have to look as far as you think to save money and discover truly exception holiday destinations that you otherwise might have missed.
Luxury Accommodation
Moorvista is one such example of a luxury holiday home that has been thoughtfully designed to complement the local streetscape, while also remaining respectful of the surrounding Dartmoor conservation area. The house is located close to the Dartmoor National Park, which is renowned for its medieval heritage and areas of outstanding natural beauty and the property is expertly placed to fully enjoy everything the region has to offer with either a full family getaway or short break at any time of the year. The are some fabulous must see events in Devon.
Homeowner, Genesta and her family have spent countless hours relaxing at Moorvista, exploring Dartmoor and visiting the local towns and villages and she was recently kind enough to share a few thoughts on her favourite ways to savour a visit to the property. “I enjoy the views from the bath after horse riding on Dartmoor, as the house is not overlooked. My husband sails, surfs and kite surfs on a typical weekend, while we both enjoy walking the South West coastal path including a visit to the pub afterwards,” she says. “In summer our family plays a very amateurish game of croquet on the top lawn and I also like looking at the local church spire while enjoying a refreshing drink as the sunsets. Our winter pool tournaments have become a little competitive and the home’s log burner adds a cosy feel at the end of cooler days.”
Moorvista is a fully-equipped holiday home that combines an exclusive range of features including an open fire, games room, swimming pool and a fully enclosed garden with BBQ – perfect for Al fresco dining. A further advantage of Moorvista is that the house is ideally suitable for families and groups of up to eight guests, with ground floor washing facilities and a wet room, meaning that the property is inclusive for all visitors.
Exploring Devon
While Moorvista, and other properties like it, are warm and welcoming places to visit in their own right, it’s only natural that you’ll want to venture out and discover the local area. A further advantage of choosing to stay in a UK self-catering cottage is that each holiday home is unique and depending on your decision, can be as remote or as centrally located as you choose.
Moorvista is an excellent example of a holiday home that is set apart and private, while just a stone’s throw from relaxing walks, local beaches and larger built up areas with shops and interesting places to eat. “There is an excellent selection of footpaths near the house and around Modbury. “The coast path views are great and there is a good two-hour circular route from the Dolphin pub down to Wonwell and back via the coast path with stunning bluebells in May. You can also park at the tennis courts at Noss Mayo and walk up to the coast path before returning to the Ship Inn for a meal,” Genesta elaborates.
“Modbury has every amenity you might need, and it is easy to walk down to the shops. A choice of three pubs and a Co-op makes catering easy if you are feeling lazy! There are two galleries, a butcher who also sells fish and a deli in town and the people are very friendly,” she continues. “For families with young children, Pennywell Farm is a good option that offers activities every 30 minutes. Under an hour away is the Eden project and the Charleston (tall ships) harbour. My favourite National Trust property is Cotehele, which is just 40 minutes’ drive away from Moorvista. Wine tasting at Sharpham plus lunch near Totnes is a lot of fun and the ‘yacht brigade’ will enjoy Dartmouth and Salcombe, both of which are 30 minutes from the house.”
What’s your secret?
With so many of us taking advantage of the great UK staycation, there are thousands of hidden gems that are waiting to be discovered, ranging from unique holiday cottages to welcoming local attractions and tempting restaurants. Holiday companies such as Blueriver Cottages are local experts in helping you to uncover breath-taking holiday homes such as Moorvista, as well as discovering charming UK holiday destinations you might otherwise have missed.
Further to saving money of the cost of holiday flights and travel time, self-catering holiday homes also provide the freedom for you to explore as much or as little as you like. Properties with on-site parking mean that you can easily use your holiday home as a base for taking trips into the wider area, which further increases the scope of what you can see and do while on holiday.
With a UK staycation the possibilities really are endless, which begs the question – What will your secret be?

Hi Franca, I stayed in this house last summer and loved it! Such beautiful design. It was one of the hottest weeks of the year too, so the pool was a godsend!

This is close to where we used to have our holiday home. A lovely area of the country. Did you know Modbury is famous for being the first place in England to ban the sale / giveaway of plastic bags in any of its shops? It was about 10 years ago. Looks a beautiful holiday house there. #KCACOLS
