Three things you should know for toilet hygiene

amomentwithfranca · 18 March 2016 · 2 Comments

I have some great information that might be useful for you and good to know. As you all know, our toilets are often considered the dirtiest items within our household, however, this isn’t always the case, and some items which hold more bacteria may surprise you. Are you intrigued now?

Toilet Hygiene

With this in mind, the washroom specialists CNM Online have provided a list of 3 things you should know about your toilet:

1. You should ALWAYS put the toilet lid down when flushing

If you leave the toilet lid up when you flush, you could be spreading faeces through your bathroom for upto 6 feet! This means any hair products, combs, toothbrushes which are within a 6 foot radius could be getting covered in your toilet water, yuck!

2. Toilet seats aren’t as germ-infested as you might think they are

We aren’t saying there are no germs around, especially if you follow our first point, but you’d be surprised to know which items within the home are often dirtier than your toilet seat like your mobile phone, computer or laptop keyboard, and your tap handles. Get yourself some quality cleaning products and pay special attention to these areas, especially the taps!

3. You don’t always need a plunger to unblock a toilet

Toilet plungers should always be your first option, if available, before calling in professional help. However, if you don’t have a plunger available and a mishap still occurs, you might need to try and clear it before a professional can get to the house.

One top tip is to pour a good amount of surface product (which you should have around the house) over the blockage, such as washing up liquid. This helps lubricate the blockage and could help it shift. Follow this by adding hot water from the tap to the bowl, ensuring the toilet doesn’t overflow, and leave this to get to work. Please note not to use boiling water.

This should help to clear the blockage, however, if it looks a little more severe, you’d be best calling in some professional help.

I hope you find this information useful and try to put to practice so then your toilets can be cleaner than ever! Good hygiene, especially when you have kids around your house is very important.

What do you think of these tips? Have you heard of them before? Have you done this before? Will you apply them from now on? Please leave me a comment below as I would love to know your thoughts.

I read somewhere that kitchen counter tops and sinks have more harmful germs than toilet seats! Eeeeew!

    Love the article Franca!

At my house we sometimes use Clorox disinfecting wipes. I think it’s more sanitary than using wet toilet paper? lol

Also have you ever used a bidet seat?
