Sienna is now almost 2 and a half years old and knows how to move pretty well. In fact, she started walking quite early at about 9 months. So she has always been a very active little girl. She learns everything from her older sister Bella and picks up all the tips and tricks from her. She sees Bella already riding her bike and she, of course, wants one to ride too. She is too little for a regular bike and will soon be ready for a balance bike, so what is right for her at this stage? The answer comes from Jo Hockley, the founder of Toddlebike who has now launched her latest bike: the Toddlebike2. She emailed me about her super cool pre-balance bike in the perfect moment. This was perfect timing for Sienna so we were really happy to review it.
Sienna has a sit-on train toy at home that she loves riding a lot but it is starting to become a little small for her so the toddlebike2 was actually perfect for her.
The Toddlebike2 is very small (20 cm height) and has a compact design with narrow wheels, so young children can learn to steer and balance effectively at their own pace indoors around the home. It is suitable from the moment children are confidently walking, long before Toddlers are ready for balance bikes, pedals or scooters but long after they grow out of their baby ride-on toys. They can be used from 18 to 36 months of age which is perfect for Sienna.
When our Toddlebike2 arrived, I was really impressed by how light it was. It is definitely small and compact as they originally said. I like that it was already assembled so you don’t need to do anything! This is fantastic as your toddler can enjoy the Toddlebike2 straight away.
As soon as I showed it to Sienna she was very eager to try it. She sat down on it correctly and started going around the house. Sienna didn’t need any instructions at all. I think this is because she is in the last stage for this bike so kind of instinctively knew what to do. She was really using it very fast and I was worried she was going to fall down but thankfully she didn’t.
She really loved it! She was happy going around the living room so Bella decided to have some fun too, so she took Sienna’s sit-on toy and chased her everywhere on it. They both had a great time! It was really nice to see that bonding time between sisters thanks to the Toddlebike2!
Apparently, not all children will get on with their Toddlebike straight away and may take a while to be able to balance themselves and turn the handles.
The Toddlebike2 weighs less than 1kg, making it easy for young children to ride, manoeuvre, carry or hang neatly on a buggy when not in use. Normally a balance bike weighs around 3 to 6kg so the Toddlebike is significantly lighter. Also, having a low height crossbar allows her to get in and out very easily.
The bike has 4 wheels to help it handle most terrains. We really proved this when Sienna used it to go to the nursery the next day. Also because it has hard-wearing plastic, the bike is very easy to clean. It is waterproof, weatherproof, mud-proof and Toddler proof!
Toddlebike2 teaches very young children to sit down on the bike and to ride along. It is intended as a step before a balance bike. The 4 narrow wheels on the Toddlebike mean that your child will have more stability and will help with their skills in order to eventually move on to a pedal bike.
It comes in 3 different colours: Racing Red, Pinky Pink and Midnight Blue. We chose Pinky Pink and we really like it in this colour. It has a great look.
Because the bike is very small, it is very easy to store and also makes it very practical to carry whilst out when your child isn’t using it. It is definitely a great option for a first pre-balance bike. It has a price of £23.99 and you can buy it directly from their website or from John Lewis.
I made a really short video of Sienna testing the bike which you can see below:
