Visiting Hong Kong with the Kids

amomentwithfranca · 13 October 2016 · Leave a Comment

Visiting Hong Kong and feeling stuck for ideas of what to do? You shouldn’t be, as Hong Kong is packed with things to do for families. Spoiling visitors and citizens alike with inspiring views, thrilling activities and simple locations for respite from all the action, Hong Kong is meant to be enjoyed! Here are some of the best things that you can do while on your Hong Kong holidays.

Visiting Hong Kong with the Kids

1. Visit Ocean Park

This theme park is also Hong Kong’s very own aquatic park and is situated in Aberdeen, on Hong Kong island. Better still, admission is free for children under the age of three years, so if you’re travelling with a toddler, make the most to save some money on your activities while you’re on this break with the family. You’ll be able to see dolphins, seals, penguins and even pandas!

2. The Peak

They might love being carried on your shoulders, but they might not ask for that again once you’ve taken them to The Peak! Hong Kong’s famous tower offers the most amazing view of Hong Kong, so keep your fingers crossed for a clear day and the best views of Victoria Harbour! There are many other ways you can soak up the views as well, by taking the Peak Tram or going on the Peak Circle Walk. The latter lasts approximately 90 minutes, so you may wish to take a buggy with you for the little ones.

3. See the Big Buddha

The big Buddha statue, more correctly known as the “Tian Tian Buddha” is located on Lantau Island and is an imposing site. Both young and old will be in awe of its size and presence. The statue is a favourite on the bucket list of anyone who is visiting Hong Kong. You can take a cable car up to the mountain on which the status is situated, and there is also a monastery you can explore while you’re there. The kids aren’t going to forget the statue in a hurry!

4. Marvel in the Trick Eye Museum

While you’re at the Peak, you may decide to stop off at the Trick Eye Museum. This museum of 3-D paintings and installations will delight the kids and have them wondering how it’s all done in equal measures.  There are different themed rooms, such as Neverland and The Secret Garden, to relax, inspire and fuel the imaginations of visitors.

5. Visiting Hong Kong Park

This park isn’t particularly huge, but it’s a welcome break away from the pace of city life. You can take a break from the city malls and simply just admire the turtles and koi fish swimming along the ponds situated along the walkway. There’s also the option to go into a teaware museum and admire some of that famed Chinese skill with pottery and ceramics.

Hong Kong really spoils families with things to do, from thriving theme parks to little oases of calm. One thing is for sure, boredom is not an option. Enjoy the adventure!

Have you been to Hong Kong with the kids? If so, what do you think of my list? Are there any other places in Hong Kong you can recommend? Please leave a comment as I would love to read your thoughts.
