This September, Sienna has joined Bella at school full time. She is so excited and has been telling me every day how happy she is! I really feel so relieved to hear that she is enjoying school and that she has made new friends already. And Bella has started Year 4, and even though she is used to her school and friends, this year, both classes of her year have been mixed up so she is now getting used to her new class. But she is also very happy and enjoying her time.
For the first time, we were very organised with all the things they need for school. We made our list and got everything we needed.
First Day of school (Reception and Year 4)
One of the things that was part of my list for this new year, was getting prepared for any uninvited head lice outbreak. We all hate them but unfortunately, they are part and parcel of primary school life and most kids will end up catching them no matter how careful you are with treatments.
Head Lice Experience
Bella luckily has only had them once and we ended up treating her. This was not pleasant at all and I will do anything to avoid it this year for Sienna. Bella got it when she was in Reception. I think Reception and Year 1 are the most common years where kids get head lice. I think it is because they are still little and tend to be very close to each other and their heads usually rub a lot and that is when the head lice pass from one head to another.
With Bella, we used a treatment shampoo that had a very strong smell and we needed to do the process of washing her hair and then combing her hair for a few days. Of course, Bella didn’t enjoy this but we had to do it. I never really saw an actual head lice walking around her hair but she had lots of nits and we needed to get rid of them asap.
There is a lot of information and old wives tales surrounding how kids get head lice and where they come from. Most of this is passed down to us from our parents as we grow up and then when we come to tackle the issue as parents, we get more confused as we listen to other parents and their different ways of managing and treating head lice. It can be tricky to figure out the truth from the fake news sometimes to be able to correctly choose the right products to treat your child without having to resort to using too many products and possibly making the situation worse.
Vamousse
Vamousse Treatment Mousse kills 100% of head lice and eggs in 15 mins with just 1 application (in scientific tests). With the mousse formula, the application is made much easier as you can apply it exactly where you need to for better results. Vamousse treatment mousse is pesticide free and safe for children over 2 years. It is also effective on resistant head lice too.
Vamousse Preventative Shampoo is designed for regular use on children’s hair to help stop them catching nits when around other children. Proven to stamp out undetected infestations, the shampoo can be used before a breakout so one never sets in, to prevent a breakout when known cases are detected or for after treatment to stop a new infestation starting. There are no nasty smells in the shampoo, leaving your children’s smelling fresh and clean.
What I do know is that if the problem isn’t treated correctly straightaway, it will become worse and require more treatments. If you are unsure of which method is best for you and your child there are plenty of sources online that can provide you with accurate information as well as your child’s school who also experience this issue on a yearly basis and are up to speed with the best ways to combat the problem as easily as possible. And this is where Vamousse comes in.
My Tips for Treating Nits
From my experience with treating Bella for nits, and after doing some research, I have gathered some tips for treating head lice:
- Remember head lice are the tiny grey or brown insects that are found in the hair. The lice are about the size of a small seed.
- Nits are the empty shells left after lice have hatched. It looks very much like dandruff but as it clings to the hair it makes it very difficult to brush out.
- Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact where lice climb from the hair of an infected person to the hair of someone else.
- Have a look under a good light, such as a lamp or the natural sunlight by sitting at a window or going outdoors.
- Use a ‘nit’ comb to detect the presence of lice and nits and make sure the teeth of the comb slot into the hair at the roots,
- Clean the comb after each stroke by dipping the comb in a cup of water, or use a paper towel to remove eggs, lice and/or nits.
- Look through each section of the hair for attached nits and live lice.
- A regular check of your child’s hair will help to control head lice.
- Detect lice and nits as early as possible
- Remove lice and nits immediately and effectively
Vamousse Treatment Mousse
Vamousse Preventative Shampoo
Having Vamousse Treatment Mousse at home and using Vamousse Preventative Shampoo for my girl’s hair makes me feel like we are ready to tackle the problem should we need to. It is definitely something every parent with primary school children should have in, in case they too come home with a case for the dreaded nits. The 15 minutes and one-time application is perfect for busy parents (and children) who want to deal with the problem straight away with minimal fuss.

I’ve seen this brand before advertised online. Anything that works on head lice is a good thing! When I was younger many of the treatments didn’t work properly

I am so pleased since my girls are at secondary school that we no longer have to deal with this problem – it was endless. These treatments are great but I also used conditioner and a nit comb in between just to check as by the time they start scratching it’s too late! #KCACOLS
amomentwithfranca says
It is borrible to have to deal with this. The shampoo helps to prevent any issues and the mousse kills them
in one try so it is great! X
Rob (Lucky Ladder) says
I still have nightmares about leaning over a newspaper with my mum ripping out half of my hair with an old nit comb! This looks quick and easy, and like you say, probably worth having in just in case my two come home with any unwanted guests! #KCACOLS

Yes much better to be prepared just in case anything happens! 🙂

We had a super big problem all last year with lice. It was never-ending outbreaks and my kids kept getting it. :'(
I used 3 different treatments in the end I think.
I haven’t tried this one, last outbreak was just after school started, and once again my youngest got it bad – but the Tesco cheapy treatment actually did a good job taking care of it.
I’ll have a closer look at this one! 🙂

I remember all too well, the dreaded call from daycare about a case of lice. The treatment was horrible and there was no such thing as preventing them. I am glad that there are some improved products out there.
Who am I kidding, just thinking about this makes me itchy and glad my kids are grown! LOL

I’ve never heard of Vamousse before but it sounds like a very good product. I wonder if they have it in the US? My oldest just started school this year. He has really short hair, so I am not as concerned, but the thought does freak me out. I am not looking forward to experiencing this any time soon. #KCACOLS

I quite like the idea of the preventative shampoo to feel like you’re taking actively doing something to stop them getting nits. We’ve only had to deal with it once so far but it’s something I keep expecting to have to deal with again now Nerys is in full time school too! x #KCACOLS

Malin - Sensational Learning with Penguin says
We got head lice when our boy went to school, during his first term there. He thouroughly dislikes/is very sensitive to anyone combing his hair (don’t even mention cutting it…), and isn’t too keen on schampooing either, so it wasn’t much fun when he got lice. Though he coped better than I’d feared he would, thankfully! Good to know about the mousse product, if those dreaded critters would strike again x #KCACOLS

Thankfully mine have not had nits – yet! I am sure the time will come so I will be checking Vamousse out. #KCACOLS
