When your son was younger, gift buying felt so much simpler! He was into dinosaurs, cars or spaceships, so buying a birthday gift was a piece of cake, right? Now he’s all grown up, he’s either sucked into his games console or out with his friends, so buying gifts feels so much more difficult!
If the above sounds like you, then keep reading – we’ve compiled a few ideas that will help you buy your pre-teen son the perfect gift for his next birthday. If you’re still struggling, why not visit the Wicked Uncle website? There you’ll find presents for a 12-year-old lad, which can quickly be filtered by price to suit your budget.
Do They Love Their Gadgets?
Most boys of 12 love gadgets, and nowadays there are loads of different kinds of gadgets available which any boy will love.
Drones are really popular nowadays and can either be purchased as small handheld ones or as larger units depending on your budget. Some also have built-in cameras, so your son can record some really cool videos to share with his friends.
If your son loves using his camera phone, then why not buy a little polaroid printer for them to print out some of their favourite snaps? With a printer, they can print their favourite photos instantly.
Vouchers To Spend On Gaming Marketplaces
Whether it’s a PlayStation, Xbox or PC that your son is glued to after school each day, each has their own gaming marketplace where they can buy new games or add-ons for their existing games.
By buying them a voucher for one of these online marketplaces, not only do you know it is something that they’ll use, but you’ll also know that it’s something that they will enjoy using! Most young lads will already know what game they want next or what unlockables they want for their existing games, and whilst it may not seem a big gift for you, it will feel like one for them!
Not sure where to start? Search on Google for PlayStation Store gift cards, Xbox Live gift cards or Steam Wallet Cards.
Buy Them An Experience, Rather Than A Gift
At 12, your son will value amazing experiences just as much as physical gifts. One way you could do this is with an experience day; supercar experiences are particularly popular with boys; however, you can also buy young driver experiences for children as young as 10 where they actually get a go at driving a car themselves in a controlled environment!
Alternatively, why not treat your son and a couple of friends to a day out at a theme park? At 12, most theme parks will allow children access without a chaperone, so if you’re comfortable with doing so you are able to pay them in at the gate and leave them to enjoy their day – they will likely love the independence of doing something like this alone with their friends.
Do you have a pre-teen son? What gift will you buy for him?

I like the idea of buying them an experience instead of gift. It’s a fab idea and the type of thing they would definitely remember.
