We were so lucky to be invited to go and visit the Sea Life London Aquarium with the girls. I was really excited to go because its been a few years since we last went. It has been refurbished since we last visited and they have also added two additional areas which are fantastic. They also had a special Mr Maker activity area which my girls loved!
Sea Life London Aquarium Review
The sea world is really fascinating. There are so many different creatures out there which makes it even more interesting to go and see all these different animals with your kids.
We made a video of our visit which you can see below:
We were lucky because we had a beautiful sunny day which brought a big smile to our faces. London looks even better when it is sunny. When we arrived we were told to collect our tickets from the Priority Desk. There were no queues there so it was nice to be able to enter quickly.
The London Aquarium has lots of different areas where your kids can explore and observe. Sienna is only 22 months but she was so mesmerised by everything. You can see below the different areas that they have:
SHARK WALK
You start your visit by walking over a glass window with incredible views into their magnificent Pacific display. Take a long look at some of the most majestic creatures in the ocean as they swim just inches beneath your feet.
This was really exciting to see. You literally have the sharks underneath your feet and it is an amazing experience. My girls were amazed by them.
ATLANTIC DEPTHS
Here you will explore the mysterious depths of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s cold, it’s deep and full of creatures that are truly out of this world! You will meet a sparkling silver shoal of sand eels and a super cute Common Octopus, a very intelligent relative of the Snail!
TIDAL REACH
In Tidal Reach you’ll spot brightly coloured Gurnard with whiskery faces and pouting lips, delicate Pipefish weaving amongst the seagrass and Jellyfish pulsing through the water like UFOs!
RAY LAGOON
In the shallow Atlantic waters, beneath an old pier, you’ll arrive next at a lagoon that is rippling with beautiful Rays! These curious creatures are graceful to watch from above but don’t forget to take a look through the window below to see the mouth and gills on the underside of their body as they pass on by.
DIVE DISCOVERY
A breathtaking scene awaits you in the Dive Discovery! Flitting around the replica bones of a great Grey Whale are pretty Purple Tangs, rambunctious Triggerfish, stripy Snapper and hundreds more gorgeous tropical fish.
ROCKPOOL
You can stroke a Starfish, tickle a Sea Anemone or feel the shell of a Crab. Bella really enjoyed doing this. It is great to let the kids have these kind of experiences.
MR MAKER CRAFT ACTIVITIES & FACE PAINTING
This was only on display for a few weeks. They had an area where kids were able to produce six exclusive sea creature craft activities, from a paper-plate stingray to a foil and tissue paper shark.
Also, through the whole Aquarium, the kids were able to collect all the necessary materials to create a Mister Maker crab which can then be made at home with the help of a simple online video. Additional craft zones in the attraction allowed children to create up to five more ‘makes’ during their visit.
Along with the ray and shark, children will also get the chance to make a handprint octopus, a cake-case jellyfish, a bottle cap and pipe-cleaner crab and a colourful tropical fish, encouraging re-use and recycling of common household items.
Bella also had the opportunity to do face painting which was £5. The lady drew some beautiful dolphins on her face which looked super professional. I hadn’t seen good face painting like this for a while.
OCEAN TUNNEL
You will be able to take a stroll under the sea as you pass through an amazing glass tunnel. Shoals of glittering fish flutter along beside you whilst enormous Green Sea Turtles glide slowly over your head.
NEMO’S KINGDOM
These cities of the sea are teaming with fish which come in every shape, colour and pattern you can imagine. This is where you’ll find cute Clownfish hiding in the tentacles of Sea Anemones and flamboyant Lionfish which are covered with frilly fins.
SEADRAGON KINGDOM
At this point, you can see Seadragons and Seahorses. In this kingdom Seahorses grip at seagrass with their curly tails and suck up tiny shrimp with their straw-like snouts.
RAINFORESTS OF THE WORLD
Step out of the ocean and into the hot and humid rainforest to experience what life is like beneath the tropical treetops. Winding through the roots and tree trunks, rainforest rivers are home to some spectacular fish like Blind Cave Fish who have no eyes, Piranhas with ruby-red bellies and a Cuban Crocodile. Poison Dart Frogs leap through the foliage and monster Red Tailed Catfish and Black Pacu lurk in the depths.
THAMES WALK
Here you will learn about the River Thames, what is being done to keep it clean and the surprising animals that live in it. You will also find out how the river has come back from the dead in recent years as you explore its history, from the Thames Barrier to Westminster Bridge.
PENGUIN POINT
This is one of the new addition attractions. This area is amazing. It was so nice to see so many penguins walking around. Penguins are always very popular with kids. My girls love them!
Here you will be travelling to the frozen extremities of the Antarctic and experience life with a colony of Gentoo Penguins. The more the temperature drops, the more amazing discoveries you’ll make in this icy landscape.
The acrobatic Gentoo Penguins dive, splash and goof about under the water or take some time out to relax or tend to their nests on the land. These lovable birds may spend much of their time playing but they have evolved to live in the most inhospitable landscape on earth!
THE FROZEN PLANET: FACE TO FACE
This is another new section. You can now experience the magical polar ice worlds of BBC Earth’s epic natural history series: Frozen Planet at SEA LIFE London Aquarium.
They use the latest entertainment technology to take you above and beneath the ice through spectacular polar landscapes in a re-voiced interactive walk through experience. You will be brought face to face with polar bears and orcas for a magical journey as you interact with some of the planet’s most extraordinary creatures.
We bought a book that contained lots of interesting facts. We also received 4 different printed photos which included a code to get them online together with a keyring and magnet to insert small photos. I thought this was a great souvenir to remember our visit!
We had a fantastic time at the London Aquarium. It is looking better than ever. We highly recommend you to go and pay a visit if you’re in London. We would like to say a MASSIVE thank you for this invitation. My girls were so happy. As I mentioned before, the weather was so lovely that day and when we were out we couldn’t leave without taking a couple of photos! 😉
You can see all the different tickets and prices available on the Sea Life London Aquarium. You can get an online saver for £17. 95 for adults, £13.25 for kids from 3 to 15 years old and kids under 3 years old have a free entry. You can also find more information on their Facebook , Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
