Not long ago, I had the pleasure of being invited for a wonderful afternoon tea at The Waldorf Hilton. I was super excited to visit this iconic hotel because I had heard so many amazing things about it. Experiencing a traditional afternoon tea there promised to be a wonderful experience!
I was visiting The Waldorf Hilton for an Afternoon Tea organised by Zena from Zena’s Suitcase who is a good friend of mine. I was also going to meet another 5 lovely bloggers, some who I have met before like Claire from Tin Box Traveller, so I was excited to see them!
A Lovely Afternoon Tea at The Waldorf Hilton
The Waldorf Hilton is located in Aldwych in Central London. I travelled by bus as it was a direct journey from door to door so it was perfect for me. It took about an hour to get there but it was a nice journey because I sat on the top deck of the bus at the front so I had a fantastic view of the London streets.
I haven’t visited this hotel before so you can imagine my excitement when I arrived. It is very impressive on the outside and gorgeous on the inside. The Waldorf, known as The Waldorf Hilton since January 2004, has an illustrious history and rich heritage dating back to its opening in 1908. Set in the heart of London’s theatre land, close to Covent Garden, the hotel has attracted a string of stars from all over the world. What better way to spend a lovely afternoon than experiencing a traditional afternoon tea at The Waldorf Hilton!
As soon as I arrived I went to meet the others in the Homage room. The room was beautiful and big. The room was accompanied by their elegant resident pianist and harpist. We were taken care of by the attentive staff who were very nice and explained to us what we would be having. We were given some champagne to start the afternoon on a high! 🙂
We then were asked what type of tea we would like to order. They have a really nice and varied range of teas. I went for The Waldorf Tribute Blend which is a combination of malty, peak 2nd flush Assam tea with a hint of the evocative, smoky Lapsang Souchong tea, together creating a heady aroma of bonfires and honey. The tea was served from silver pots and fine china crockery. It was all so delicate!
Then they brought us a selection of sandwiches:
- Oak smoked salmon and chive infused cream cheese
- Baked ham with a hint of Dijon mustard
- Free range egg and watercress
- Open faced chicken coronation
- Citrus fused tuna mayonnaise with slivers of chilled cucumber
I particularly liked the finger sandwiches including tuna and egg mayo. Each was very tasty! I really enjoyed it!
Tiered stand
Delicious warm scones
Not long after, they brought a tiered stand of sweet treats as well as a selection of warm scones served with clotted cream and jam. OMG, this was delicious! I loved it!
It was very filling so we couldn’t finish it all so I took a cute box home with some of the pastries and scones in it and they went down a treat at home.
To end the afternoon tea we were given complimentary cocktails! My cocktail was specially prepared for me which was very nice of them. I said that I would like some strawberries with vodka. They did a great job because I really enjoyed my cocktail. It was lovely!

I really enjoyed my time at The Waldorf Hilton and I can highly recommend you to try the afternoon tea too if you are in the area. What a fantastic experience!

Macarons and an iced creamy sponge which made me think of a more sophisticated French Fancy, a deliciously sticky orange marmalade cake and the richest chocolate ganache cup with an edible flower to decorate – so rich, I reluctantly declared myself defeated.
