How To Rock Your Prom Without A Date

amomentwithfranca · 11 April 2017 · 1 Comment

As most people know, the culture of the high school prom originates in the US. It’s also something I was used to growing up in South America where its something that has also been adopted. With the growth of popular high school themed movies and shows such as High School Musical and Glee, it’s no surprise the culture has spread much further around the globe. Here in the UK, it’s no exception as the prom seems to have replaced the traditional high school disco or leaving party. However, it doesn’t come without new pressures for youngsters… such as what happens if you don’t have a date. Well, no date for prom? Don’t worry about it! Seriously, it’s not going to matter as you go through life, and, you can have so much fun on the night without a date. Here’s why you do not need a date for prom!

1. Loads Less Pressure

The level of stress for prom these days is immense, we don’t doubt that for a second. Even once you have picked out your dress from a trusted online retailer like Prom Dress Shop, the pictures taken, the transport booked – there are just so many things to still consider. Going to prom without a date can alleviate a lot of that pressure. You won’t have to worry about being asked, how to match outfits, or any other expectations. You also won’t have to worry about anyone else when you want to do your own thing. So, you won’t be tethered to someone all night long which means you can sing, dance, and hang out with anyone you want to.

2. A Lot Less Drama, Too

When you put a bunch of teenagers in a room together, it’s almost inevitable that there will be drama. And drama can ruin your prom. Whether it’s jealousy when your date dances with someone else, or you don’t meet each other’s expectations, you’re just setting yourself up for turmoil. Avoid all the drama and go without a date!

3. You Can Focus on Important People

Going to prom with a group of friends instead of a date is a great way to honour the relationships that are likely to last a lifetime. You’re bound to create lasting memories with them instead of a date you may never see again when you finish school.

4. It’s Cheaper to Go Solo

Let’s face it, prom is expensive for both boys and girls. From the outfits to meals, transport, and after-party fun, it all adds up. Even if your parents are footing the bill for everything, you should still be fair to their finances. By going dateless and with a group of friends instead, you can share costs and take tons of pressure of mom and dad’s wallets.

5. Dancing Will Be More Fun

Once of the best things about prom is the dancing. And if you love to dance, it could be a little awkward with a date. Unless your date can seriously bust some moves, chances are, you may not be compatible dancers. By not feeling obliged to dance with a date, you can dance with anyone and everyone, anyway you want to and truly let your hair down.

6. Time for Other Things

Choosing to go to prom without a formal date means you can put so much more time and effort into other things – like those upcoming exams, qualifying for sports championships, or getting into college.

So, if you don’t have a date for prom, don’t want one, or don’t know what to do – don’t stress it! Going to prom on your own is fashionable, less hassle, less expensive, and means you can truly have a great night with your special friends creating memories that will last forever!
