Regular readers will know that I’m always on the look out for places to visit in the UK, so today I’m writing about another location that you might not have visited previously. Why not pack up the family and head out for a great day or weekend in Norwich and the surrounding area – here are some fantastic suggestions to get you started. With summer nearly here and everything in beautiful bloom, there’s no better time to get outside and play!
Tips for a Great Outdoor Family Weekend in Norwich
Swing from the treetops at BeWILDerwood
You’ll find it hard to leave this tree-top adventure park: situated just outside Norwich (about a half hour’s drive), BeWILDerwood is based on the book A Boggle at BeWILDerwood by famous local author Tom Blofield. This mystical theme park has all sorts of activities and fun places to explore to keep the little ones entertained for hours.
Celebrate ‘Wild in the City’ with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust
Naturalists, authors, artists and locals are joining forces to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. From Saturday 21 May until Sunday 5 June, visit the Forum to partake in the activities and learn all about Norwich’s rich wildlife. Check the Norfolk Wildlife Trust for more information on events.
Find all the fluttery creatures at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden
From Saturday 28 May until Sunday 5 June, it’s ‘Wing it Week’ at Fairhaven! This fantastic family-friendly event encourages exploration and appreciation of this beautiful area: find all the winged wonders on the spotter sheet and you could win a little prize. For more information, visit Fairhaven’s Events page.
Feed the animals at Wroxham Farm
There are a bunch of great family-friendly activities at the Wroxham Junior Farm: you can feed pygmy goats, cuddle guinea pigs, groom ponies, collect eggs from the henhouse and much more. This lovely little farm is a bit outside Norwich but is well worth the drive. For a full list of activities and information on planning your trip, visit the Wroxham Farm website.
Play at the Norwich Castle
Although summer’s nearly here and we’ll be able to spend more time outside, there will be the inevitable slew of rainy days. When the skies open up (they always do), pay a visit to the Norwich Castle Museum, which has some fantastic exhibits for the whole family. Conveniently, just a few minute’s walk away is the Royal Arcade where you can enjoy some great shops and keep the little ones amused with a visit to Langleys Toys.
Have you visited Norwich before? Are there any things I haven’t covered? Are there any other places you can recommend in the UK? Please leave your comment as I would love to read your thoughts.

It’s been so long since I’ve been to Norwich. I have family there but it is literally the other side of the country from where I live in Wales. There’s so much to d there and I love a good castle.
