Regular readers will know that I’m always on the look out for places to visit in the UK, so today I’m writing about another location that you might not have visited previously. Why not pack up the family and head out for a great day or weekend in Norwich and the surrounding area – here are some fantastic suggestions to get you started. With summer nearly here and everything in beautiful bloom, there’s no better time to get outside and play!
Tips for a Great Outdoor Family Weekend in Norwich
Swing from the treetops at BeWILDerwood
You’ll find it hard to leave this tree-top adventure park: situated just outside Norwich (about a half hour’s drive), BeWILDerwood is based on the book A Boggle at BeWILDerwood by famous local author Tom Blofield. This mystical theme park has all sorts of activities and fun places to explore to keep the little ones entertained for hours.
Celebrate ‘Wild in the City’ with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust
Naturalists, authors, artists and locals are joining forces to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. From Saturday 21 May until Sunday 5 June, visit the Forum to partake in the activities and learn all about Norwich’s rich wildlife. Check the Norfolk Wildlife Trust for more information on events.
Find all the fluttery creatures at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden
From Saturday 28 May until Sunday 5 June, it’s ‘Wing it Week’ at Fairhaven! This fantastic family-friendly event encourages exploration and appreciation of this beautiful area: find all the winged wonders on the spotter sheet and you could win a little prize. For more information, visit Fairhaven’s Events page.
Feed the animals at Wroxham Farm
There are a bunch of great family-friendly activities at the Wroxham Junior Farm: you can feed pygmy goats, cuddle guinea pigs, groom ponies, collect eggs from the henhouse and much more. This lovely little farm is a bit outside Norwich but is well worth the drive. For a full list of activities and information on planning your trip, visit the Wroxham Farm website.
Play at the Norwich Castle
Although summer’s nearly here and we’ll be able to spend more time outside, there will be the inevitable slew of rainy days. When the skies open up (they always do), pay a visit to the Norwich Castle Museum, which has some fantastic exhibits for the whole family. Conveniently, just a few minute’s walk away is the Royal Arcade where you can enjoy some great shops and keep the little ones amused with a visit to Langleys Toys.
Have you visited Norwich before? Are there any things I haven’t covered? Are there any other places you can recommend in the UK? Please leave your comment as I would love to read your thoughts.

We live so far from Norwich but you’ve made me want to visit. Beautiful pics, the treetops looks like so much fun and I love wandering through beautiful gardens with the kiddies. My partner works there occasionally so perhaps we could slot in an adventure there x

I’ve not been but I have relatives there and I might well do a short ‘staycation’ next year so I’ll definitely refer back. Sounds like a beautiful place #KCACOLS

Oh my goodness, I was so excited to read this as Norwich is my home town and I love it! Norwich Castle is fab. The other thing I would recommend for older children is the Norfolk Broads – can’t beat a fab cruise down the broads and so much nature to see. Also the Dinosaur Park is hugely popular, just outside Norwich. Plus tons of shops – especially quirky little independents – and pubs in the city centre. Is fabulous x #KCACOLS

I live in Norwich and love Bewilderwood! I’ve only taken school trips so far (I’m a teacher) but can’t wait until Little M is big enough for us to take her.
There’s also the Dinosaur Park at Lenwade (about 30 mins outside Norwich) and of course lots of lovely beaches along the coast, or you could hire a boat on the Norfolk broads. Norwich has great shopping for the grown ups too. As you might be able to tell, I love where I live! #KCACOLS

Norwich is so far from us it seams unlikely I’ll get to visit anytime soon, so I’ll stick to admiring your take on the city which as a country fan like me looks very refreshing. I’ve seen some lovely posts on Country Kids from Berwilderwood and I do love a castle. #KCACOLS

I live in the US, so Norwich would be pretty far for me to travel on a day trip-haha! But seriously, I need to make my way across the big pond-looks like there are lots of fun things to do over there! (: #KCACOLS

We love Norfolk, and are fortunate that my parents had a holiday home near Cromer. BeWilderwood is a favourite and we go every year, we also like getting a boat on the broads for the day. Norwich is great if you have any kid-free time too, great shops!bars and restaurants. I’ve had great sushi in Norwich! #KCACOLS

Amazona Zoo at Cromer isn’t a million miles away either. It’s the only place I know that under-4s get in free; so if you’ve got any three-year-olds take a look!

Oh we are going to stay just outside Norwich for a couple of nights – child free! We are celebrating our wedding anniversary and we are staying at Ickworth House. Can’t wait. I will be passing on your suggestions to Grandma so that she can keep the kids entertained for the weekend 🙂 #KCACOLS
