10 Toys To Entertain A 1 Year Old

amomentwithfranca · 19 October 2015 · 28 Comments

A couple of months ago, I did a post about 9 Things to keep an 11 month old busy, and now that Sienna is one year old (14 months), I thought that I should do an update of this and make a list of the toys for a 1 year old that she is enjoying a lot at the moment.

10 Toys to Entertain a One Year Old

1. Activity Cube Baby Toy – 6 in 1 Educational Discover Center

Cube 1

Cube 2

This is an excellent toy for a 1-year-old. Sienna loves playing with it, and although she is still too young to enjoy all the functions, it is certainly good enough to entertain her for a little bit.

2.   LeapFrog Shapes and Sharing Picnic Basket

Picnic Basket Toy 1

Picnic Basket Toy 2

This was one of Sienna’s birthday presents. She adores it!! It comes with music and a voice that talks about shapes and colours. Sienna finds it fascinating. She always plays with this.

3. Fun Time Pop-Up Farm Friends

Pop Up toy 1

Pop Up Toy 2

This is a very interesting toy because Sienna knows how to push all the animals down pretty well, but she hasn’t yet been able to make them pop up! What she does is, after pushing them down very hard because she uses a lot of force LOL, she passes the toy to me, so I have to pop them up. This keeps her entertained for a fair amount of time. The only problem is that it is a little tiring for me. However, I hope she will soon master it all herself soon.

4. MEGA BLOKS Big Building Bag

Duplo 1

Duplo 2

This was a nice present from Grandma. It was initially intended for Bella, but now Sienna has inherited it. The Mega Bloks are a classic toy for little ones. Sienna doesn’t build much yet, but what she loves to do a lot is to get the individual pieces outside the box. Alternatively, she carries the box, turns it upside down, and then all the pieces go everywhere. This is great, as she plays with it for quite a while.

5. Baby My First Talking Tablet

2015-10-03_101242161_2D37A_iOS

This is another fantastic toy. Sienna is always watching Mummy and Daddy typing on our laptops or Bella playing with her iPad, so of course, she wants to have something similar, too. She likes this tablet toy from Toys R Us. It features music and a woman’s voice. The settings offer a choice between English and French. I would have preferred to have it in English and Spanish, but they didn’t have that option. She runs around holding the tablet like a crazy person, and she gets so excited!! It is so funny!

6. THOMAS & FRIENDS Toy Train

2015-10-03_101441158_2BC13_iOS

Even though Sienna is a girl, she loves trains, too, which I find super cool. She likes Thomas the Tank Engine. This toy is good; she likes to press the little driver and let it go. It is very fun for her, and I love watching her play with it.

7. Thomas & Friends Kids Ride On Toys

2015-10-03_100746451_7A0CB_iOS

Again, another Thomas the Tank toy!! We got this for someone else a long time ago, but for some reason, we ended up giving something else, so we kept this toy. I wasn’t sure, as I wanted something with pink, but the truth is that she doesn’t care; it’s just me who cares, LOL! She rides this a lot lately and loves to push it around, so we’ve come to love it, too!

8. Ikea Mula Pull Wagon With 24 Building Blocks
(Amazon Alternative)

2015-10-03_101041302_EF091_iOS

We bought this from IKEA a few years ago, and it has always been a hit with Bella; now it’s the same with Sienna. It is so good because of the colours and shapes. Sienna can’t put the pieces back in the box (at least not correctly), but she loves taking them out and sucking on them. It is her guilty pleasure!! LOL.

9. Fisher-Price Stacking Surprise Song & Smiles Silly Town

2015-10-03_095516753_F3E16_iOS

This toy was a present from the Grandparents and has also been around our house and theirs since Bella was born. This playset from Fisher-Price has been a lifesaver, as it features numerous different elements. Sienna loves the music and loves watching the little characters going up and down!

10. Djeco Stacking Cubes

2015-10-03_100627732_A8754_iOS

This was a gorgeous present for Sienna’s 1st birthday from her Godparents. They purchased it in Italy during their holiday visit. The illustrations are beautiful, featuring 10 small cubes where your kids can learn the numbers and names of animals, bugs, plants, and more. Of course, Sienna’s favourite game is throwing away all the cubes after building the tower. She loves that part!

I have put together a list of suggestions for toys for a 1 year old on my Amazon Store that might be good entertainment.

What do you think of these toys? Do you also have a 1-year-old that plays with similar toys? What other toys do you use?

Aww such lovely toys. My daughter (17 months) just loves her mega bloks, but also pushing her teddies or dolly around in a pram and pretending to feed them 🙂

It’s been so long, I can’t remember. But I saw those Mega Blocs and thought, “And so it begins ..”. It ends with Lego. Lots of Lego! (Seriously I could do pictures every day for a year of our Lego creations and still not be done!)

Can’t go wrong with Mega Bloks! They were a massive hit with my little girl when she turned one, she has a box full of them now and we keep adding to her collection!

Well, as you now know my boy doesn’t play with actual toys, ha ha! But I do like the look of these, especially the wood blocks from Ikea.

You couldn’t have written this post at a better time! Just today I was thinking that I need to get Taylor some more toys as she really doesn’t seem very interested in the ones she has (unless she can suck or chew them she really isn’t bothered!) but I was thinking building blocks would be ideal. She also loves to ‘unpack’ things (usually dirty laundry from the laundry basket!) so that picnic set looks perfect! I definitely need to check some of these out. Brilliant suggestions #KCACOLS

Haha I just wrote a similar comment, and now reading the comments I’ve spotted yours! H is obsessed with putting things in and out of any tub, ring, bowl, and also, really loves the washing basket too. I admit, I’ve been known to leave it in her playroom for her to play with as it occupies her nicely while I catch up on housework 😀 x

My 14 month old likes megabloks too. Mostly she likes her older sister’s toys, and spends less time with her own though! Love the picnic basket – so sweet! #KCACOLS

It’s so funny, my daughter had so many of these or similar but at 1 years old everything would keep her entertained for about 5 seconds – it was frustrating! In the end I found it was the simple things that weren’t toys…kids eh!? #KCACOLS

My kids are 5 & 2 now but still love playing megablocks, I think it suits all ages. Girls doesn’t really bother a lot whether its a toy for boys or girls because my little girl loves playing her big brother’s toy cars and yes, it’s us mummys who cares a lot. lol Great post! #KCACOLS.

Really great toys! I really like the picnic basket and megablocks as Mia has similar toys and spends a lot of time playing with them. Shes 2 and she still plays with these kinds of toys and still gets a lot of fun out of them in fact we aren’t getting her many toys for Christmas as she still has plenty of toys she likes 🙂
