With the years my skin has become very sensitive and I had to change the way I treat it. I never used to have problems with my skin before but now every product I use to remove my makeup, for some reason, is causing me an allergic reaction. It can leave me with irritated skin for a few days.
I have made a few changes to my routine and the way I take care of my skin which seems to be helping me lately. So I thought i’d put together a list of the things that have helped me so far. See below:
1. Makeup Remover Cloths
As I mentioned before, every single product I have used lately to remove my makeup was affecting my skin. After searching for a solution, I came across a fabulous product called “Erase your Face” which was actually suggested by another blogger friend. I was desperate to find a solution to my problem so I gave it a go.
I am so glad I did because these makeup remover cloths are magical. You simply wet them, use them and then hang up to dry. It will remove every single bit of makeup you have on your face, even waterproof makeup. I was so impressed. I am a fan of it and since getting it I have not used anything else.
I also like that it is reusable and easy to take with you when travelling. I highly recommend it, especially if you have sensitive skin like me. I even have some eczema on my eyelids sometimes and this helped tremendously with that problem.
2.Serums & Oils
I never used serums before until I reached my 40s. I seriously think they are magical. My skin is dry so the serum really helps to hydrates it. I like to put it before I go to bed. It really helps my skin to feel rejuvenated and I feel much fresher in the morning.
I have tried different serums in the past and most of them have been very good. But, of course, I have my favourites like Mitchel and Peach Flora No. 1 Fine Radiance Face Oil, Angela Langford Bloom & Glow, Dr Botanicals Vegan Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil or ByBi Strawberry Booster.
3.Silk’n FaceTite Ritual
I have previously done a review of the Silk’n FaceTite Ritual and I have mentioned there how good my skin feels after trying this ritual. You should be doing this twice per week for 10 weeks and then change to once every 2 weeks. You can carry on as long as you feel your skin needs it.
I have seen a massive improvement since I started using it and my skin feels super soft as a result of the treatment. It has definitely helped with my wrinkles as well as smoothing my skin.
4. Clean Makeup Brushes
I didn’t use to clean my make up brushes very often so my brushes were very dirty. When I started having problems with my skin I immediately thought that I needed to start cleaning my brushes more often.
This process is very easy to do and doesn’t take too long. I use baby shampoo and then clean it with water and leave it to air dry. I honestly think that it is very important to do this quite often, especially if you wear a lot of makeup every day. And it is very hygienic too.
5. Not Wearing Makeup Every Day
Since my skin problems started, I have tried to reduce wearing makeup every day. I have never been that person that needs to wear makeup every time I go out of the house but I like to do my eyebrows and put some lipstick on. This has definitely contributed to having better skin.
I guess the lockdown has helped with this as I haven’t needed to put makeup on and this has been beneficial.
6. Remove Makeup
I know this one sounds obvious but I know a lot of people that get very tired before they go to bed and forget to remove their makeup until the next day.
But I also wanted to suggest that you should remove your makeup as soon as you are back home or as soon as you don’t need your makeup on anymore. I used to come back from events and left my makeup on for the rest of the day and it was a bad habit. Now I remove my makeup as soon as I am back home or as soon as I don’t need it on. This has helped a lot with my skin improvement. After removing my makeup, I usually apply some moisturiser and my skin feels much better.
These are the 6 things that I am doing now that have definitely helped to improve my skin and they are now part of my skin routine.
What other things do you do to take care of your skin?

Oh a really need to wash my makeup brushes. Thanks for the reminder xx
I like the idea of using a cloth to remove make up. I usually just attack mine with cotton wool. Although, during lockdown I haven’t been wearing makeup, so my skin has had a bit of a break x
Great ideas and i deffo agree with no make up everyday as my skin always feels better after break from make up
I have only just started to wear a serum (even though I used to work for a high end skincare counter-smack my hand) and I love the feeling but hate waiting for it to absorb before applying moisturiser…..im always in a rush
Oil and a make-up cloth are my go to fixes. Have always been lucky with my skin but my 40’s have brought spots, rashes and random dry patches. Thanks for the extra tips.
some good advice here –ive rough old builders/outdoor workers skin
I drink plenty of water and moisturize every evening
I swear by makeup cleansing cloths, but I tend to use a face oil and flannel. But I do need to stock up on some softer cloths. #kcacaols
I don’t wear a lot of make up but I am bad at removing it…my skin is not perfect either, go figure! #KCACOLS
My skin could do with improving so I will follow your tips#kcacols@_karendennis
These are some really great tips, thanks Franca! Is it weird that I find washing my make-up brushes really therapeutic? Not that I do it often enough! I’m also getting into the habit of taking my make up off once my boys are in bed. Mainly because I go to bed really late and by then I can’t face it! #KCACOLS
Lots of great tips. Here from #KCACOLS.
Oh my gosh I literally want to go buy all these products haha! They look lovely 🙂 I’ve been meaning to try make-up removing cloths for ages – really must give them a go. So much better for the environment than wipes. Thanks for sharing these fab tips xx #KCACOLS
I never clean my make up brushes I will do that tonight! The make up remover cloth sounds like magic will have to try one. #KCACOLS
Passed in to my wife … she’s impressed! #KCACOLS
I think sleep and keeping your skin hydrated helps a lot X #kcacosls
#KCACOLS I’m guilty of cleaning make up brushes. Need to do that more often.
Those make up remover cloths look a good idea. I must say I do like make up free days too. #KCACOLS
Never really explored serums – may be now is the time – thanks for your ideas
I love serums and oils since especially since entering my 40’s. The biggest skin care change for me is SPF, which I use everyday x x #KCACOLS

I cut out so many steps by not wearing makeup lol
But I have been using a serum that my aunt makes.
I probably need to figure this stuff out.
Some great tips here. I also am a big fan of those magic makeup remover cloths. #KCACOLS
Those make up remover cloths sound like magic! I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and even less so now in lockdown. I usually use coconut oil to remove mascara and everything else comes off with soap and water. I always had terrible acne-prone skin, but it has cleared up a lot since my pregnancies. Although now I’m getting fine lines, so should probably use something to combat signs of aging. #kcacols
The cloths look really good. Although I have to say I’ve not wore make up for nearly a year. It’s actually quite liberating.
