A Lovely Sunday Afternoon in Golders Hill Park

amomentwithfranca · 6 November 2015 · 39 Comments

On a recent Sunday afternoon, we decided to go out of the house and have some fresh air. We had been at home all morning and were desperate to do something different and to get the girls out of the house. You are not going to believe how good it is sometimes to just go for a nice walk to the park for some fresh air. It was a dark and wet day but even like that it is just nice to spend some time out with your family. We decided to go to Golders Hill Park. I have never been there but Nick had and he promised me that I wouldn’t be disappointed. We all quickly changed and went out to explore the park. OMG guys! I really wasn’t expecting this park to be that beautiful!! If you are ever in that part of London you should stop by and have a look around as it is really gorgeous!

They have large green spaces. It looked like we were in a wild wood. You could tell all around that Autumn was really upon us now. You could see the beautiful leaves all over the ground with those yellow and orange colours that are really stunning at this time of the year.

I took lots of photos of that afternoon. It was just perfect! As soon as we arrived we just walked around and explored the area a little bit. Bella was so happy. She wanted to pose and asked me to take pictures of her. It was so funny! She just knows now what to do when I’m taking photos of her! It was really cute.

They have a really nice playground for the kids. My girls were so happy playing there. We really had a good time until the weather got worse and started raining. It didn’t last too long though so we thought it could be nice to keep walking towards the other side of the park as we didn’t want to leave without seeing everything!

Golders Hill Park is home to a free zoo, with a growing collection of rare and exotic birds and mammals such as laughing kookaburras, ring-tailed lemurs and ring-tailed coatis. It is one of only two free zoos in London registered with BIAZA, the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. They also have a separate area for deer near to the small zoo.

There are some large expanses of grass, but it also has a formal flower garden next to a duck pond with a small humpback bridge, butterfly house, a bandstand, a separate water garden, which leads onto a larger pond with both black and white swans. Isn’t this place amazing!! I love it!!

We then went to the park café and on our way we found a lovely squirrel and a friendly cat! At the Café we had a lovely cup of coffee (Nick and I) and some hot chocolate drinks for Sienna and Bella. They had lots of yummy desserts so we picked a few different ones to share between us all. It was really nice!

After that we headed back home. It was really a lovely Sunday afternoon which we hadn’t planned and it ended up being one of the best!! Sometimes being spontaneous and just going with the flow leads to a better outcome. What a beautiful time we had as a family.

Do you also like to do spontaneous things? If yes, did you enjoy it? Was it worth it? What kind of things did you do? Leave a comment below and I would love to know your thoughts.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

Sounds like a fab day! And your photo’s are amazing! What a lovely place, I too like the spontaneous trips out that just turn out to be the best family trips, especially the ones that don’t cost the earth! If I am ever in that area I will definitely be checking it out, big, open spaces are a must for my little ones so I’m sure they would love it. I wish we had more places like that here! xx

What a fantastic park. It reminds me of somewhere we went in Sweden that had a farm, sensory garden and adventure trail, all for free too. That was a very rainy day but we didn’t let that put us off either 🙂 #KCACOLS

Wow, what an amazing place! Looks like you’d need a whole day to explore it all!
Lovely pics of the family 🙂
Last month we spontaneously picked blackberries and I made crumble. That was a lot of fun…and yummy!

It always amazes me that London has so many large parks, for such a densely, populated area. This park looks great, and I like the idea that families can go to the zoo area for free.

Walks in the forest, parks or countryside are great this time of year. We drove through the New Forest a few weeks ago, on our way back from Charmouth, and it had a great display of different Autumn foilage.

    Thanks for Hosting #KCACOLS

What a lovely day! The park looks beautiful, how great is it that there is a free zoo! I love that. I used to always just go for random days out when I had a car, however now I am in work full time we don’t get to do it so much I do miss it #KCACOLS

OMGoodness I would have a field day there taking pictures. I was tempted to knock on a few of my neighbors doors who had huge trees with falling leaves, to ask if I could take pictures of my kids playing in them. Our yard was just finished last year as our house was just built March of last year. Do you edit photos at all? That’s what I do on the side if you ever need some editing done 😉 Thanks so much for hostessing #KCACOLS Trista

Looks like a beautiful park and definitely quite wild in appearance too. You have some really gorgeous photos of your family from your autumn walk. Great that you could see the animals there and a fab park to play in as well. All the best walks end with a visit to a cafe, I love a good hot chocolate on a cold day.
