UK Coffee Week: 24 Coffee Hacks

amomentwithfranca · 15 April 2016 · 51 Comments

I’ve mentioned previously about how i’ve become quite a coffee lover in the last few years. As part of my blog I actually got to go to a Nespresso hosted event where I got to learn a lot about coffee. Thanks to the guys over at myvouchercodes.co.uk, I found out a couple of days ago that this week (April 11th – 17th) is actually UK coffee week, something which I was not previously aware existed.

UK Coffee Week 24 Coffee Hacks
UK Coffee Week is a fundraising initiative supporting Project Waterfall. UK Coffee Week begun in 2011 and since has raised over £325,000 to bring clean and safe drinking water to the poorest coffee growing communities over the world. Money is raised through fundraising schemes created by partner coffee shops. To find out more and to sponsor UK Coffee Week should you wish, follow this link.

To celebrate UK Coffee Week, MyVoucherCodes have shared with me their 24 Coffee Hacks infographic that you can see below. These are coffee hacks that you are unlikely to have come across before – I certainly wasn’t aware of these uses!

Throughout the week MyVoucherCodes will be regularly giving their users Starbucks vouchers via Facebook, so head over there if your partial to a Starbucks coffee like me!

MyVoucherCodes have also shared with me information about a study they have conducted into whether fair trade is the best system to pay coffee farmers in the developing world. The article compares and contrasts Fairtrade with direct trade. It includes comment from professor of economics at the University of San Francisco, Bruce Wydick and Will Corby, Head of Coffee for UK Direct Trade specialist coffee supplier, Pact.

Hi Franca, I love the infographic with all the additional benefits of coffee. I drink far too much coffee, but now that I have read how good it is, I won’t feel quite so guilty. Pen xx #KCACOLS

Even though I’m in Australia, I’ve been inadvertently celebrating UK coffee week like crazy! That is, I’ve been drinking lots of the stuff. My favourite is home made iced-mocha with my Nespresso machine. So good!
Thanks for sharing! Some coffee uses I certainly didn’t know about. Its also handy to spread about the vegetable garden if you have a slug or snail problem, they can’t stand the smell of it, and it will keep them at bay.

A really interesting infographic! Though, they forgot its use for dying paper yellow so that children can ‘age’ their homework if it is meant to be from the ‘olden days’. That is the unusual use I get most (and sometimes they try to burn holes in it and set their parents’ kitchens on fire too) #KCACOLS

Wow ! I had no idea about all these uses for coffee, it really is amazing, and not just something I can use to keep my eyes open. I also had no idea it was National Coffee Week last week, I was on holiday, so slightly out of touch with what was happening in the world, but it sounds like it is for a great cause. My husband has drunk the Luwak coffee whilst we were in Bali, made from cat’s poo after they have eaten the coffee beans! Thank you so much for letting me guest co-host with you this week Franca, it has been lots of fun and a great eye-opener too. Claire x

Wow, I have never thought of all the other uses for coffee besides drinking it! I’m much more of a tea drinker as my stomach gets upset with coffee, but love the smell of it. I especially love the idea of using coffee for under your eyes! I am one tired mama and could use a lot of help in that department! 😉

I would never have imagined coffee has so many uses! How does it work as a drain unblocker? I wonder if any of these uses would also work with instant coffee?? I’m a huge coffee fan and rely on it to get me through the day. Just goin to make myself an iced coffee now! #KCACOLS
